The fictional, tight 3/8th mile track in Northern Indiana has been a mainstay on the SUPRS schedule since the beginning of the supermodified sim racing sanctioning body. During the formative years of SUPRS, LaPorte was one of the few tracks available to the fledgling sanction.

Winning at LaPorte a Tough Nut to Crack

A scant few drivers have ever won a SUPRS sanctioned race at LaPorte Speedway. Many of the 13 different drivers that have managed to see the checkered flag first at LaPorte have never won a second race there. Of those 13, just seven have won the Harvest of Speed, proving that a win here is hard to come by.

Maxon, Davidson, Sand Stand Out

In the history of SUPRS racing at this track, which dates back to 2004, Myles Maxon and John Davidson have more total wins at LaPorte than any other driver. Maxon’s four Harvest of Speed victories at LaPorte make up the bulk of his seven total wins here . Three of those wins came in a row from 2007-2009. Davidson did something no other driver has even come close to. He had an incredible run of eight straight checkered flags at LaPorte from February 2005 to April 2006. One of those wins was the 2005 Harvest of Speed.

Ray Sand, Jr. is third on the All-Time SUPRS LaPorte Speedway win list with six. Two of his wins there include his 2011 and 2013 Harvest of Speed victories.

Gangwer Defending Harvest Winner

Last year Bob Gangwer joined Davidson, Maxon and Sand, Jr. along with Sean O’Kane, Gary Waldron and Chris Meyers as a Harvest of Speed winner. It was Gangwer’s first LaPorte win after 13 years of trying after he capitalized on a mistake by early race leader Rob Warren. Joe Achzet and Keith Powell finished up on the podium for two of their best LaPorte finishes.

Tradition

From the first Harvest of Speed, the event has always used the NASCAR Heat sim racing platform. Through the years different versions of the game have seen action, with the first being the Mike Jackson built “PSTM” mod. Using NASCAR Heat to start the season is a tradition continues this year as the racers look for a bountiful start to the season.

Old School Originality

The ‘in-house’ SUPRS W v6.0 mod built by Quesnell Designs was originally released in 2010. The unique and original mod was the first in the sim racing world not only to feature multiple supermodified chassis in one game, but also articulating top wings. The mod, which is now considered very old, continues to offer many memorable races just like its done throughout its long use.

This year’s Harvest of Speed is a part of the Indyana Supermod Challenge, (ISC), a multi-race, season-long regional tour that also includes races at Salem Speedway and Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Something that makes this championship within a championship a very hard one to win, is that racers have to be good in both wing and non-wing supermodifieds. Plus, the tour is a mix of both the NASCAR Heat and rFactor gaming platforms.

Special Award for 2018 ISC Champ

The overall Indyana Supermod Challenge Champion gets 10 SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship bonus points, which in and of itself is something special. Even better, the 2018 Indyana Supermod Challenge champion receives a special gift basket filled with Yoder’s Indiana Popcorn, popping oils and even buttery salt!

Circle the Date

SUPRS 14th consecutive season of supermodified sim racing begins with the Harvest of Speed at LaPorte Speedway on October 10, 2017. Practice begins at 8:15pm, with the Drivers Meeting taking place at 8:30. Time Trials follow at 8:45pm and Racing begins with the Fast Car Dash at 9:00pm.

SUPRS Headed Back Home Again for Indyana Supermod Challenge

Goshen, IN – April 17, 2015…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), will visit the Hoosier State for a two race extravaganza of online simulated supermodified racing next week to close the 2015-16 Indyana Supermod Challenge series.

Indianapolis Raceway Park will be the scene of the action for the last night of the three race series that started with the Harvest of Speed Season Opener at LaPorte Speedway this past October. The SUPRS racers will run two 50 lap supermodified sim racing features and one driver will leave the Hoosier State as champion of the Indyana Supermod Challenge.

The online supermodified racers will have their work cut out for them with 100 total feature laps to be run using wing and non-wing supermodifieds at two distinctly different versions of the track and two different sim racing platforms.

While the first race of the night will feel very familiar because it will use the SUPRS WV6 mod for NASCAR Heat, this year, the second 50 lap feature will break new ground.

To further test of the sim racers skills, the non-wing supermodified feature is a rFactor race using the SUPRS NWV1 mod on the JNSTracks.net “O’Reilly Raceway Park” version of the Claremont, Indiana oval.

When it comes to winning at IRP, Ray Sand, Jr. and Myles Maxon hold the distinction of being nearly unstoppable, whether it be in wing or non-wing supermodified competition. Of the 20 SUPRS races contested so far at IRP the two have won half of them. Sand, Jr. has three non-wing wins and two wing supermodified victories, while Maxon has four wing wins and two non-wing checkered.

John Davidson and Bob Gangwer are the only other drivers to come remotely close to that with Gangwer having three total victories and Davidson two. Randy Ritskes, Gary Waldron, Joey Payne, and Devin Gee each have one win at this historic 5/8ths mile track.

With all the marks in the win column at Indianapolis Race Park, it should come as no surprise that Maxon and Sand, Jr. also have the most Indyana Supermod Challenge Championship.

Maxon has won the Challenge an incredible six times with Sand, Jr. being the next closest having captured it three years in a row from 2011-2014. Bob Gangwer and Randy Ritskes are the only other drivers to have won the overall Challenge.

While Sand, Jr. is the current Indyana Supermod Challenge series point leader, “Steady” Steve Callahan, who’s on a two-race win streak, is just five points back. 2004-05 ISC Champion Bob Gangwer in third 10 points out of first.

The overall Indyana Supermod Challenge Champion will be awarded 10 SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship points and receive a five-pound bag of  award-winning Yoder’s Indiana popcorn.

Even more bonus points are on the line with drivers having a shot at the SUPRS DoubleDown  of 25 bonus markers if they can win both features, the SUPRSCharger which awards 10 extra points in each race to the driver that advances the most positions from his starting spot and the SUPRSChallenge hands over 20 bonus points if a driver wins either feature from the last starting place.

With only three weeks left in the 2015-16 SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship schedule, there’s no slowing down for the competitors that are looking to gain those last few points as they head into the “Circle City” for the Indyana Supermod Challenge.

The SUPRS rFactor Race Server will open at 7:00pm with Official Practice for the non-wing supermodifieds running for an hour between 7:15 and 8:00pm. The wing supermodifieds for NASCAR Heat will then take over and will hot lap from 8:15pm to 8:30.

Time Trials for the wing supermodifieds follow at 8:40pm with heat races for the wing supermodifieds set to start at 8:50pm. At about 9:15pm a final warmup for the non-wing supermodifieds take to the track for ten minutes with the non-wing feature scheduled to start at 9:25pm.

Supermodified and online sim racing fans and friends can enjoy the action and view timing and scoring of every SUPRS rFactor race in an instant, including the non-wing practice and feature of the 12th Annual Indyana Supermod Challenge via the SUPRS LIVE! page.

This will mark the twelfth time the original online sim supermodified league has started their season at this fictional tight 3/8th  track located in Northern Indiana and in that time only five different drivers have been able to drive their way to victory lane.

Defending SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Champion, Myles Maxon, tops the win list for this race. Maxon’s four Harvest of Speed victories at LaPorte make up the bulk of his seven total wins here . Three of those wins came in a row from 2007-2009. Only John Davidson has more total wins at this track having chalked up an incredible run of eight straight checkered flags from February 2005 to April 2006, with one of those being the 2005 Harvest of Speed.

Ray Sand, Jr., who is no slouch at LaPorte either, has five feature wins including the 2011 and 2013 Harvest of Speed races.

Sean O’Kane (2006), Gary Waldron (2010), and Chris Meyers (2012) are the only other drivers to have won the Harvest of Speed. Steve Callahan, Jim Crannell, Josh Crannell, Doug Heveron, and Jesse Kennedy have also etched their names into the SUPRS record book as one-time LaPorte Speedway race winners, although none of them brought in the Harvest.

This year’s Harvest of Speed will again be a part of the Indyana Supermod Challenge. With all the marks in the win column at LaPorte Speedway it should come as no surprise that Maxon and Sand, Jr. also have the most Indyana Supermod Challenge Championships with Maxon having six and Sand, Jr. three.

The overall Indyana Supermod Challenge Champion will be awarded 10 SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship points and receive a five-pound bag of  Yoder’s award-winning Indiana popcorn.

Practice begins at 8:00pm, with the Drivers Meeting taking place at 8:15. Time Trials follow at 8:30pm and racing is set to start at 9:00pm.
