Oswego, NY – July 09,<\/strong> 2013…<\/em>It may have taken a while to get the show on the road, but once it was rolling, the battle for the win in the SUPRS 8th Annual\u00a0 Jim Shampine Memorial 80 was one for the ages.\u00a0 Rochester, NY’s Ray Sand, Jr. took the lead on lap three from pole sitter Myles Maxon and worked the entire race to hold him off for the win.\u00a0 Maxon, Kyle Perry, Steve Callahan and Rob Warren rounded out the top 5.<\/p>\n

Ray Sand, Jr. (18) brought home his first SUPRS Jim Shampine Memorial 80, narrowly beating Myles Maxon(79).<\/p><\/div>\n

After a long evening of racing Sand, Jr. said in victory lane, “That had to be the longest 80 laps I’ve ever raced here in SUPRS competition.”\u00a0 Sand, who has won all of the major events on the SUPRS non-wing and winged schedules had never before picked up this prestigious event, narrowly beat Maxon to the line for the win and was ecstatic to finally accomplish a long awaited goal. “Let me tell you, after winning just about everything else, this one means a ton, especially doing it while holding off Myles for most of the race, then right at the line. Anytime you can do that and win in this league it means a lot, but winning against a field like this and with it being the Shampine Memorial, it’s all the more special.”<\/p>\n

Maxon was looking to become the first three time winner of the event and threw everything in the book at his arch rival Sand, Jr. and the race went right down to the line. Maxon started on the pole but stated, “I really would have rather been in the second row or outside and let someone else set the pace because setting the pace isn’t really my forte.”\u00a0 Sand took advantage of a slight slip up by Maxon on lap three and took the lead. “I can’t believe I did that,” Maxon said of his mistake. “I knew he was there and I was going to do everything I could to make him earn the pass, then I just cooked it into turn three and slid up then he got me out of four.”<\/p>\n

Kyle Perry came home with a career best third place finish and was extremely happy with his first podium. “This means a lot to me to run up front with these guys,” he said. Perry, while running in fourth, had a bit of good luck when Rob Warren, who was running in third had issues and momentarily lost control of the car allowing Perry to move up into the top three.<\/p>\n

Next week the SUPRS Stars will do battle in the First Finish Docks and Hoist Services “Irregular 45” at Oswego Speedway.<\/p>\n
