1st<\/sup> to Finish IrReGuLaR 45 Uses Old Oswego Speedway Race Format<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

July 11, 2020 – Goshen, IN…<\/strong><\/em>The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 1st<\/sup> to Finish \u201cIrReGuLar 45\u201d on July 14 goes “old school cool” with a format that is modeled after the same one that helped maked Oswego Speedway<\/a> famous in the short-track racing world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tough Format<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

1st<\/sup> to Finish Race Servers owner, Rob Warren, came up with the idea to run a race that used the old Oswego format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI remember being a kid at Oswego Speedway,\u201d Warren said. \u201cBack then a driver really had to work his tail off to make the feature.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warren remembers nights where supermodified ‘greats’ struggled. \u201cThere were some nights when the greats like Bellinger, Shampine, Gioia and Ciprich had a hard time getting out of their heats.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oswego is known around the world as \u201cThe Home of the Supermodifieds.\u201d Until the 1990s, a driver had to work his way through a heat, a semi-feature, and sometimes a consi just to make the feature event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If he had a high handicap, a driver would have to start deep in the field of each race. Fans watched some of the best supermodified racers from around the country battle each other, just hoping to make the next race. If they did, they would have a shot at winning the largest weekly paying short-track purse in the country if they got to the feature race. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

IrReGuLaR Though?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Why is the SUPRS version called “IrReGuLaR?” Because that’s how the sponsor wanted. Warren picks up the story, \u201cI thought we\u2019d call it \u201cIrReGuLaR\u201d because Oswego, nor SUPRS runs a show that way anymore so it\u2019s out of the norm. Plus it just sounded fun,\u201d Warren stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The guy that came up with the idea for the race, is the same one that has more SUPRS wins than any other, and eight SUPRS Gold Crest Season Championship rings. Yet, he has never won the event. Rob Warren will do his best to try to break the seven-race win streak of defending 1st<\/sup> to Finish \u201cIrReGuLar 45\u201d winner Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh when the racers hit the track on July 14. Keith Powell is the only two-time winner of this race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Race Details<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Official practice for the\u00a01st<\/sup> to Finish \u201cIrReGuLar 45\u201d begins at 8:30pm. There is a Drivers meeting at 8:45pm. Racing starts at 9:05pm with the first of two 10 lap qualifying heat races after which two 15 lap semi-features precede the 45 lap feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
