Latest SUPRS schedule has new venues, includes 15 States, Canada<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

September 12, 2020 – Goshen, IN\u2026 <\/strong><\/em>The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), is excited to announce the 2020-21 Gold Crest Wing Supermodified  Championship Schedule that includes four new venues, and 41 races over the course of seven months, and traverses through 15 of the United States and Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two New Venues are Miles<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Two of the three new venues showing up on the exciting 41 race schedule are inconic, big, one-mile tracks. While the real supermodifieds have never raced at The Milwaukee Mile or Sanair Super Speedway, according to SUPRS co-founder Bob Gangwer, the two tracks fit perfectly into the virtual supermodified schedule. “It’s a bit of a stretch to imagine supers at a place like Milwaukee and Sanier for sure,” he said. “But that’s the great thing about virtual racing, you can have this ‘what if?’ attitude and the way the schedule played out this year with the dates, puting Milwaukee and Sanair in there, plus the members seem to enjoy stretching their legs a little at these big joints.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Milwaukee replaces Madison Speedway for the St. Patrick’s Day “Grab O’ the Green” event after a less than stellar race at Madison last year. “We had to find something a little better than what we had last year,” Gangwer said. “I don’t think anyone left Madison saying, “I can’t wait to get back here” after the carnage we had. Plus we needed to keep the schedule aligned in a midwest state, as that time of the season we are pushing west.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s certainly not the first time that the St. Patrick’s Day race has been held on a mile because for many years, the race was traditionally contested at Dover Downs International Speedway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When SUPRS visits Sanair Super Speedway in St. Pie, Quebec, Canada on December 15, 2020, several ‘firsts’ for SUPRS will happen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. It’s the first time SUPRS has sanctioned a race in Quebec, CAN.<\/li>
  2. It’s the first time SUPRS has ever sanctioned a race at Sanair Super Speedway.<\/li>
  3. It’s the first time the popular Christmas Special will be contested on a track more than a 1\/2 mile in length.<\/li>
  4. It’s the first time the Christmas Special has been run outside of the United States of America.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    After many years of running the Christmas Special at Bracket Hill Raceway in New Hampshire, (which returns to the schedule this year for the Presidents Day Special on February 16, 2020), the series has struggled to find a home for the race that is popular because the winner receives a Burgers’ Smokehouse Meats Christmas ham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Gangwer explained the conundrum saying, “This was probably the hardest date and venue to nail down because of where it fits in the schedule and our desire to move away from tracks that seem to have a lot of cautions.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    “We’ve just not been happy with the racing when we ran the race at Airborne and Pantucky, in the states, and we’ve not had a good race at Mosport, in Canada yet,” he said. “Then when we tested at some of the other eastern Canadian tracks like Autodrome Chaudiere, and Flamboro, that we thought might work into the schedule from a time and location standpoint, we didn’t like the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    “We considered going back to NASCAR Heat and Cayuga, we thought about rFactor and another New York track like maybe Chemung, we even considered trying to find something in Maine or Vermont, but in the end, when we tested Sanair, all but one of the guys testing it said we should run it. So really, it came down to the lesser of all evils and we’ll see how it goes.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The track is anything but easy with several very distinctive features, not the least of which is the very challenging turn one and two which seem to almost double-back. Coming out of turn two drivers have a slight uphill incline leading to a dogleg that is late in the backstretch. Turn three and four are sweeping, almost wide-open throttle corners leading onto the long front stretch. But the wide and smooth surface could also lead to some fantastic supermodified racing on the tricky .81 mile “oval” that at one time hosted IndyCar races.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Challenging Swings, Regional Tours Realitively Unchanged<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    All of the challenging multi-race swings and regional tour races remain on the schedule and are relatively unchanged. The year long Empire State SUPRS Series, the North Carolina Swing, Keystone Nationals, Indiana Supermod Challenge Regional Tour will all run at the same tracks and essentially the same dates as last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The one change to those multi-race swings is that SUPRS has dropped New Smyrna Speedway for 2020-21, and added Desoto Speedway in Bradenton, FL to kick off Speedweeks on February 1, 2021. This exciting development has nearly all of the SUPRS competitors looking forward to this date. “This is a multi-groove track that should give us a great race,” said SUPRS Lifetime Member Steve Callahan. “I’ll tell you what, this is going to be a darned good show,” exclaimed Carl Becker who is over 75 years old and has over 500 SUPRS starts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    South Carolina Speedway for SUPRS 17th<\/sup> Anniversary Special<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    In another interesting development, SUPRS will run their 17th Anniversary Special at South Carolina Speedway, a track that has never been on the SUPRS schedule before. The reasons for this track being added are two-fold according to Bob Gangwer. “We needed a track that was representative of where we started,” he began. “Plus, with this being a track designed by Mike Jackson from the old DSES\/DRT league, we felt very comfortable adding it to the schedule. We also wanted to run at a track that we’d never been to before and one that fit into the geographic location of the schedule, and was a NASCAR Heat venue.” SUPRS will celebrate 17 consecutive years of sanctioning supermodified sim racing on November 3, 2020, which is near the date of their first sanctioned race in 2004.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Two of Three Triple Crown Races During Wing Season<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    Of course two of the three SUPRS Triple Crown presented by Icings on Top races take place during the wing supermodified sim racing season. The first is the 12th<\/sup> Annual SUPRS All-Star Classic on February 12. This 200 lap spectacular is modeled after the Star Speedway International Classic that has been going on for 55 years. Last year, Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh led all 200 laps and lapped the entire starting field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The second leg of the SUPRS Triple Crown presented by Icings on Top is also the final race of the year. The 17th<\/sup> Annual Summit Classic Week will be run on a completely revamped Madera Speedway on April 28. Thanks to an incredible amount of work by “Mad Postman” Editing and BreezeGraphics.com, with help from real supermodified racer AJ Russell, racers and fans will be greeted with the most accurate and attractive version of Madera Speedway available for supermodified sim racing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A driver that can win those two races and the third and final race of the SUPRS Triple Crown presented by Icings on Top, (the Topless! 200), receives a special award at years end. To date, only Ray Sand, Jr., Rob Warren, and Dave Ohh have won the Triple Crown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    SUPRS is no stranger to streaming live sim racing. In fact, SUPRS was the first to bring supermodified sim racing to the fans via live broadcasting in 2016 with the airing of Pole Night for the 12th<\/sup> Annual Topless! 200. SUPRS history of pushing this envelope dates back to 2008 when the very first SUPRS broadcast took place on a tape delayed basis from Jennerstown Speedway for the Randy Witkum Memorial in a partnership with High Speed Radio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    SUPRS races most Tuesday evenings with Hot Laps beginning between 8:00 and 8:15pm, and Racing at 9:00pm ET except where noted on the schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    SUPRS races most Tuesday evenings with practice for each event starting between 8:00 and 8:15 pm, Drivers Meeting at 8:30 pm and Racing at 9:05 pm. For bigger shows including swings and double-headers the evening often starts earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
