Sets New Track Record<\/em><\/h2>\n

Oswego, NY – August 20, 2013…<\/strong><\/em>Ray Sand, Jr. of Rochester, NY blazed his way to the pole position of the 9th Annual Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series Topless! 200 pole on Tuesday night.<\/strong>
\n<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Turning in a lap of 16.056, Sand dropped the former record of 16.070 which was set by Jeff Weber in 2011 and gained a valuable point for the effort as he chases Myles Maxon down to the wire for the 2013 SUPRS Non-Wing Supermodified Championship.<\/p>\n

“This feels good to be able to pull this off,” began the two time defending race winner. “I’ll be honest, I’ve been so busy in the shop working on the real race car to get it ready for the International Classic at Oswego Speedway that I really forgot about what was going on tonight.”<\/p>\n

“I’m just glad to be here and hands down I know who’s going to be chasing me tomorrow night because it’s a long race and it’s going to take everything I’ve got to hold off Myles,” said Sand.<\/p>\n

The racer he’s most concerned with is the one he’s chasing in points and will start the Topless! 200 right next to Sand in the front row and that’s Myles Maxon.<\/p>\n

Maxon is on a streak this week in SUPRS competition having won the SUPRS Modified 200 on Monday and driving away from the field for the win in the SUPRSNationals for winged supermodifieds just prior to time trials for the Topless! 200.<\/p>\n

“I’m certainly not surprised by Ray’s lap because he’s simply dynomite here so congratualtions to him on the pole and new track record,” said Maxon. “In a perfect world, I’d be out front and run away, but I know there’s no way that’s going to happen with Ray on the pole so I’m just going to take this as just another race and let the points play out as they will.”<\/p>\n

Guaranteed starters Rob Warren and Bob Gangwer will fill in behind the front row while the rest of the field will have to run heat races including Steve Callahan who had a guaranteed starting spot but was unable to take time due to technical issues.<\/p>\n
