July 27, 2005 – Jennerstown, PA…<\/strong><\/em>The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series non-wing supermodified season may only be four weeks old, but already an intense points battle has developed between John “SFJ” Davidson and Jim “JRC” Crannell and this week, SFJ came out on top after winning the 63 lap feature at Jennerstown Speedway.<\/p>\n

Crannell kept Davidson on his toes the entire night, matching the Californian’s moves, lock, step and barrel. Crannell was second quick qualifier to Davidson, won a heat race like Davidson, led a lap like Davidson, set the fastest lap of the race, then finished second.<\/p>\n

Bobby Gangwer had his best race to date and finished in third, while “Mad Dog” Mike Dougherty of Grand Rapids, MI finished in fourth. The top four all finished where they started the feature. Real supermodified racer, Joey “The Jersey Jet” Payne moved from eighth to fifth, tying his best finish since the second feature of the Independence Day Twin 25s the first week of the season.<\/p>\n

The car count was down a little bit, mostly due to the fact that many of the SUPRS racers are out and about during the summer to enjoy real supermodified racing.<\/p>\n

In other notes, Mark Pasquale made his first start of the summer non-wing points season. Pasquale is originally from California and now resides in Pennsylvania. He drives the #3 car which is painted up like his hero and real supermodified legend Al, “Mambo Man” Pombo who terrorized the California and West Coast supermodified scene in the 60s and 70s.<\/p>\n
