Steve Callahan\u00a0Continues Dominance\u00a0of Stafford Motor Speedway<\/em><\/h2>\n

Stafford, CT\u00a0– March 24, 2015…<\/strong><\/em>Steve Callahan left no doubt that he is the online\u00a0king of Stafford Motor Speedway Tuesday night after taking his fourth win in six years at this track with the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series. “Steady” Steve thwarted the challenges of Bob Gangwer and Myles Maxon as they attempted to dethrone him from his Stafford seat of power and they ended up in second and third.<\/p>\n

Steve Callahan won the SUPRS Xtreme Tuesday 50 at Stafford Motor Speedway.<\/p><\/div>\n

“This is pretty awesome man,” Callahan said. \u00a0“It’s great running with these guys, I hope everyone else had as much fun as I did tonight.”<\/p>\n

For the second year in a row, the Cuyahoga Falls racer may have won, but it was no easy feat with a tough crowd of racers behind him. “I wasn’t able to drive away \u00a0like I had planned. I heard those guys every single corner of every single lap behind me \u00a0and it got really intense there at the end because the car went away,” stressed Callahan.<\/p>\n

Callahan started the race on the outside of row one finding his car a pleasure\u00a0at the beginning of the race. He spoke about the first few laps saying, “The car was really hooked up at the start and I figured I’d better take advantage of it and after a little dicing when Myles slipped up high and I ducked under him, then Ray slipped and I ducked under him, I \u00a0got Bob and the lead. The start was really good and the top four broke away a little bit and we tried to run by ourselves.”<\/p>\n

While the car was a rocket for most of the race, Callahan’s CPR Motorsports machine fell off towards the end. “Like I said, the end was very intense because I made a change after qualifying and it worked for 40 laps but it wasn’t good for 50,” he explained.<\/p>\n

As SUPRS makes a move to rFactor for the next season, Callahan will go down in history as the all-time SUPRS\u00a0winner for NASCAR Heat at Stafford Motor Speedway winning four of the six races contested at the track designed by Doug “Flash” Forgue exclusively for SUPRS including the first two ever run in 2010 and 2011. Jamie Hartley and Chris Meyers are the only other drivers to sit in Stafford Victory Lane for SUPRS.<\/p>\n

“I knew Stevo would be the guy to beat here tonight, and he really proved this is his track so congratulations to him, he’s a great guy and a blast to run with,” said second place finisher Bob Gangwer.<\/p>\n

Gangwer used his pole starting place to make a bid for his first win at Stafford but fell just short at the line. “I really would have liked to say I won at race at this track because of all the history of the real joint,” he said. Then added, “I just want to say thanks to Myles, he ran me ultra-clean and even though he didn’t finish, Ray Sand, Jr. is the epitome of what a good champion is. He got into me just a little there early on in turn one and we went three wide with Steve coming up on the short end of the stick. It was just a racing deal, but he pulled low and let us by.”<\/p>\n

Myles Maxon led one lap of the race and ended up in third place. He had a good explanation of his viewpoint of the three-wide action Gangwer alluded to. “I didn’t get\u00a0a really good start. I wanted to settle in and see what I could do,” he began. “I saw them go three wide coming off the corner and Steve got hung out so I passed him, then in the next corner Bob and Ray got bottled up so I decided \u00a0to go to the high side instead of wrecking anyone’s car and almost got up to the front.”<\/p>\n

After everything got sorted out, Maxon ran in third and methodically worked to find a way past Gangwer and Callahan. Never out of striking distance for the win, he nonetheless found himself struggling. “I’m not sure what happened, but I got shuffled back. I could hang with everyone in three and four but was struggling in one and two,” Maxon said.<\/p>\n

Maxon, the current SUPRS point leader, showered the winner with\u00a0accolades saying, “Congratulations to Steve, four out of six is pretty darned good. Maybe they should name the track after him!” To which fourth place finisher Rob Warren added, ” “Stafford” Steve Callahan sounds better than “Steady” Steve Callahan now.”<\/p>\n

The SUPRS racers stay on the east coast for the April Fools\u00a050 next week to close out March at Twisted Metal Raceway in New Jersey. Marking only the second time in SUPRS 11 year history that they will race on dirt, this event will decide\u00a0which SUPRS racers is\u00a0the best at “pushin’ the cushion.”<\/p>\n
