Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh Stops clocks with 11.302 second lap to claim 19th<\/sup> Annual Summit Classic 125 Pole at Madera Speedway<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

April 25, 2023 – Madera, CA…<\/strong><\/em>Dave Ohh of Union, CT sped to his fourth straight pole position of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Summit Classic 125 on Tuesday Night at Madera Speedway<\/a>. The two time winner of the Summit Classic 125 stopped the clocks with a time of 11.301 seconds, for an average speed of 105.144 mph. His feat of four straight puts him in a tie for the most pole positions of the Summit Classic 125 with Bob Gangwer.<\/p>\n\n\n

Brad Keysor will roll off from the outside of the front row with a lap time of 11.362 seconds. Keysor’s time was nearly identical to his run last year which also netted a front row start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ohh and Keysor have had a virtual lock down on the front row at Madera since 2019 and are the odds on favorites to win on Wednesday, having locked down the winner’s circle for this race in alternating years since 2019. Each is going for their third victory in the second leg of the SUPRS Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing presented by Icings on Top, and are locked in a neck and neck battle for the SUPRS Wing Supermodified Gold Crest Championship XIX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zach Sears was the only other driver in the 11 threes but will start from the inside of the third row after Anthony Corsoniti, who qualified fourth with an 11.748, and Bob Gangwer, who was seventh quick, used their Guaranteed Starter status to fill in the second row.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ohh Goes Early<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Unlike previous year’s that he’s sat on the pole for the Summit Classic, Ohh got his wish for an early run in qualifying which is what he had been hoping for. “I prefer the track to be fresh, so getting the second draw is good for me,” he said. After going late in the session the last several years, Ohh admitted that it too has some advantages saying, “When you go out later, you get a better ballpark of what you need to run time wise and how much you need to push. The benchmark is set here early, so you have to be careful and go out and set a good lap then go for it.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ohh stated he was shooting for the 11.2s or low threes. Had it not been for a slight bobble on his last lap, he may have been into the twos. “The lack of drive off turn four I had coming to the checkered on the second lap,” Ohh claimed as the reason he missed his goal. “I really just got loose and got close to the wall, and was close to spinning it across the line.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If I’d had a little better drive off I could have gotten that two. But like I said high two, low three, I’ll be happy. I got that low three and I’m happy with that to come out with the pole.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While his fellow SUPRS members weren’t surprised the pole sitter seemed somewhat shocked that his time was good enough for the pole position. “I’m surprised because Brad, (Keysor), was hitting some really fast laps in practice, so I’m just glad to be able to get it done. No Changes for Summit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After setting the fast time in qualifying, the champion driver plans no changes to his TMS “Black Beauty” ahead of the big race on Wednesday. “I’m locked in now,” he said. “I’ve got something comfortable and there’s no sense making any last second changes here. I know I have something for the long run and for the whole 125 laps and more if we have cautions.” In what may be considered the most telling statement as well as the most troublesome for his fellow competitors, Ohh concluded with, “I’m comfortable with that. It’s proven at least, so we’ll stick with it.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baldwinsville, New York’s Daniel Nans is the fast qualified rookie of the race after clicking off a lap of 11.830 seconds. Nans, who wrapped up the Icings on Top Rookie of the Year Award for the Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Season XIX some time back, wasn’t the least bit surprised by his fast lap and thought he may have had a little more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I did feel pretty good with the speed I had,” he admitted. “But I definitely felt like I could have gone quicker because I was doing that in practice but I’m happy with the starting position I’m going to get.” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nans Brothers Racing driver won’t do too much to the car in order to get ready for his first Summit Classic 125 start on Wednesday. “Not really much,” he said when asked what changes he’d make. “I’m basically qualified in my racing set up, but I feel like I could do well in tomorrow’s race and I hope I do well and just stay on the track tomorrow.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nans will be joined by Jon Kreuzer of Ft. Collins, CO who is set to start just his second SUPRS feature race and qualified into the show with a best lap time of 12.658 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 19th<\/sup> Annual Summit Classic 125 is April 26, 2023 at Madera Speedway<\/a>.  The first Hot Lap session gets underway at 7:10pm for Summit Classic rookies. Drivers that have made a Summit Classic 125 start then get the track at at 7:25pm and then an “all-skate” session goes from 7:40pm-7:55pm. Following the Drivers Meeting, a final Warm-Up session is at 8:10pm. Season Awards, driver introductions and pre-race festivities will lead up the to drop of the green flag at 8:40pm ET.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
