Steve Callahan Holds off Myles Maxon to Win Wreckfest\u00a0at Buckley Speedway
\n<\/em><\/h2>\n

Buckley, CA\u00a0– April 28, 2015…<\/strong><\/em>Steve Callahan came out on top of a battered heap of cars to win\u00a0the\u00a0Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series Golden State Special 75\u00a0Tuesday night at Buckley\u00a0Speedway. Myles Maxon and Bob Gangwer survived a wreck strewn race track to finish on the podium in second and third place behind Maxon.<\/p>\n

“Man I’m wore out,” said Callahan after picking up his ninth SUPRS feature win of the season. “This is a real tough place but that was a good race up front, this is awesome.”<\/p>\n

After a wild race, Steve Callahan won the Golden State Special by a narrow margin over Myles Maxon.<\/p><\/div>\n

Callahan started outside of row one next to pole sitter Rob Warren, but had trouble on the start. “I was a little late on the start and had to fall in behind Myles so I just wanted to ride around behind Myles and try to save the car.”<\/p>\n

While Callahan rode in third the battle for the lead intensified to the point where the top two made contact. “It looked like Myles and Rob got tangled up a little\u00a0bit,” explained the winner. “The bottom opened up, so I just put it on the bottom and it stuck and I was able to drive around them.”<\/p>\n

They say “to finish first, first you must finish,” and after two aborted starts because of over-anxious drivers, and a race marked by bent race car nerf bars, many wondered if any of the SUPRS racers would be able to finish.<\/p>\n

Once the race finally got underway after three tries, Warren held onto the top spot for 32 laps with Maxon hounding him all\u00a0the way, while Callahan kept his eye on the top two from just two tenths back. Fast qualifier Domenic Gioia, and Bob Gangwer ran two car lengths behind the top three, embroiled in their own battle for position, while Carl Becker and Dave Brigandi were duking it out a straightaway behind.<\/p>\n

Warren, working hard to keep Maxon behind him, bogged down his First to Finish Docks and Hoists online supermodified in the middle of turn one and two \u00a0and Maxon, with nowhere to go, got into the back-end of Warren, sending the leader up the track. Maxon was able to go by, but in the next corner, Warren got in a little hot and smashed the back-end of Maxon’s car.<\/p>\n

Maxon slid up the track and Warren slowed to allow Maxon to go back around as a courtesy. As he did, positions three-five caught up. Maxon made his way by Warren and as Warren moved down to resume racing in second place, Callahan and Gioia had already made their move under Warren. Much to Warren’s dismay, both Callahan and Gioia made contact with Warren\u00a0and his car became too damaged to continue.<\/p>\n

Callahan quickly made his way past Maxon as Warren pulled pitside and Gangwer resumed his battle with Gioia. Gioia held onto the third place until he smacked the backstretch wall with just 10 laps to go and Gangwer got by. Gioia limped home in fourth with Dave Brigandi and Carl Becker able to finish the race in fifth and sixth.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the evening, Warren won the dash and Becker took the heat.<\/p>\n

The SUPRS Gold Crest Division racers will now head north out of the San Fernando Valley to the\u00a0 San Joaquin Valley\u00a0and Madera Speedway to close the 2014-15 SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship season with the 11th running of the Summit Classic 125. Practice for this prestigious race runs from 7:45-8:15pm. Time Trials follow at 8:30pm with qualifying heat races set to start at 8:45pm. The green flag will drop on the 11th Annual Summit Classic 125 at 9:15pm.<\/p>\n
