Rob Warren Sweeps Up at Jim Shampine Memorial, Sets Fast Time, Leads Most Laps on Way to Win<\/span><\/p>\n

Oswego, NY\u00a0– June 7, 2016…<\/strong><\/em>Reigning Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Gold Crest Non-Wing Champion Rob Warren added his name to the list of Jim Shampine Memorial winners Tuesday night. Clinton Cyr and Steve Callahan\u00a0rounded out the podium finishers, with Domenic Gioia coming home fourth and Keith Powell fifth in the field of ten drivers.<\/p>\n

Rob Warren (35) was crowned the 11th Annual Jim Shampine Memorial Champion. Steve Callahan finished third in the #55. Clinton Cyr was P2 but not present for post race.<\/p><\/div>\n

“To win the Shampine Memorial is amazing and astounding at the same time,” he said. \u00a0“Jimmy was my idol and my hero. This is pretty special and certainly one of my most precious wins.”<\/p>\n

Warren led the most laps of the race at 68, but never felt comfortable enough think he could pull off the win. “First Ray was gone and I was pretty surprised about how fast he pulled away, then he crashed,” said the driver of the First to Finish Race Servers roadster.<\/p>\n

“You know how when Myles passed me with just a handful of laps to go the last time I lost it?” asked Warren from victory lane. “Well that one a couple of years ago that I lost at the tail end hurt, and I sure thought this was going to be a repeat of that.” \u00a0“Clinton Cyr was so much better than me tonight four or five laps into a run and I was pretty sure he would get me after that last restart,” he explained.<\/p>\n

SUPRS will donate $80 to Families Fighting Flu<\/a> in Chad Phelps’ name as the eighth place finisher of the race. Jim Shampine’s grandson Joseph lost his battle with flu at the age of five.<\/p>\n

The race had seven lead changes among three different drivers. There were five cautions for a total of 26\u00a0laps with the 80 lap race taking just a little over 40\u00a0minutes to run and eight of the 10 starters finished the race.<\/p>\n

After two extended length races in a row the SUPRS racers will be in action Tuesday, June 14\u00a0for a the Flag Day 45 at Oswego Speedway.<\/p>\n
