Pat Lavery, Dalton Doyle Add Summer Championships to 2016 Win Totals<\/span><\/h2>\n

OSWEGO, NY (July 18, 2016) \u2013<\/span> Just weeks after each winning the Spring Championship, both Pat Lavery and Dalton Doyle were at it again on Saturday night at Oswego Speedway, driving to Turning Stone Resort Casino Victory Lane in the Novelis Supermodified and Pathfinder Bank SBS Summer Championships presented by Crop Production Services.<\/p>\n

Muldoon, Keith Shampine, Sitterly, and Barnes chased Lavery across the finish line in the closing stages of the Summer Championship.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was just trying to get everything I could get,\u201d said Lavery. \u00a0\u201cThe middle of the race there I took a little too long getting around Hal (LaTulip) and Michael (Muldoon) made a great move to get by me, but we caught a break with a caution flag. \u00a0He\u2019s a good racer too, I have fun racing with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

The move Lavery referenced came on lap 15 as the leaders approached the lapped car of Hal LaTulip. \u00a0Lavery got caught in behind LaTulip going into the first turn allowing Muldoon to roll the top of the track and temporarily take the lead. \u00a0However, a caution before a lap could be completed meant that Lavery would restart in the top spot.<\/p>\n

For Lavery, the win was the third of his veteran Supermodified career at the Steel Palace, as he fought off early charges from Dan Connors Jr. and later Mike Muldoon, to score the 50-lap victory putting him and his team right back in the hunt for the Novelis Supermodified driver\u2019s championship.<\/p>\n

With the win, Lavery surges to fifth in the driver standings only 20.5 points behind new leader Michael Barnes.<\/p>\n

Barnes, who had led the points earlier in the season, fell to the runner-up spot in recent weeks behind Dave Gruel, but a fifth place finish Saturday catapults Barnes back to the top spot by 4.5 over Gruel, 7.5 over Sitterly, and 15 over Saturday\u2019s runner-up finisher Muldoon.<\/p>\n

Connors and Lavery brought the Novelis Supermodified field to the Cam\u2019s Pizzeria green flag on Saturday with the duo running wheel to wheel for the opening lap of the race before Lavery would eventual surge to the lead in the Graham Racing supermodified.<\/p>\n

Starting fourth in the lineup, Muldoon made all the right moves very early on to eventually slide up into the runner-up spot with Lavery in his sights.<\/p>\n

With Lavery, Muldoon and now Shampine in the top three spots by lap 10, Sitterly and Barnes began their charge through the pack from eighth and tenth in the lineup.<\/p>\n

The duo managed to make quick work of Tim Snyder, Abold, Bellinger and eventually Connors to file in behind Shampine before the lap 15 mark when Muldoon looked to have taken the lead.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately a nice early run for Connors would come to an end at lap 20 as he\u00a0 spun into the first turn to bring out the caution.<\/p>\n

On the restart Lavery led Muldoon, Shampine, Sitterly, Barnes, Bellinger, Abold, Gruel, Bond, and Danzer.<\/p>\n

After the green lights came back on Abold was able to dart under Bellinger for sixth, making the lead pack a six car runaway.<\/p>\n

The last caution would wave at lap 28 as July 2 winner Aric Iosue found the turn three foam.\u00a0 Iosue was OK, but done for the night.<\/p>\n

The caution brought the field together one more time and on the restart Barnes tried several attempts at the high side of Sitterly but was unable to make a move stick.<\/p>\n

As the final laps progressed, a six car lead pack became four with Lavery, Muldoon, Shampine, and Sitterly on the move. \u00a0Muldoon looked to have something for Lavery late, but fell short, as Lavery cruised to his second win of 2016.<\/p>\n

Muldoon talked to infield announcer Keith Zehr post-race about his run.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were tight,\u201d said Muldoon. \u00a0\u201cWe were having real trouble on the restarts. \u00a0As soon as you get up behind someone you lose the front wing and it just gets so tight you can\u2019t get underneath anyone. \u00a0Congrats to Pat (Lavery). \u00a0If anyone is going to win but me, I\u2019d want it to be him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shampine scored another podium in the Chris Osetek No. 55.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe found some things wrong with the car after the last race and came out last night to test and made a lot of gains,\u201d said Shampine, who travels from North Carolina to race at the Speedway. \u00a0\u201cWe\u2019ve been staying up here quite a bit this summer. \u00a0I don\u2019t have too many commitments down in Charlotte now, so it allows me to stay up here, it\u2019s a lot cooler up here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Muldoon, Abold, and Lavery would score Shell Shock Custom Helmet Paint Heat Race Challenge victories on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Pathfinder Bank SBS<\/span><\/p>\n

In the Pathfinder Bank SBS Summer Championship it was Dalton Doyle dominating the competition on his way to victory lane to score his sixth career main event win driving the No. 01 machine.<\/p>\n

Doyle started from the third position on Saturday, eventually working by early leader Jesse Bearup to take the lead on lap 6, racing away to the win over Mike Bruce, Anthony Losurdo, Bearup, and championship leader Dave Cliff.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs soon as we got out there for the hot laps, the car was pretty flawless and I was happy with what we had,\u201d said Doyle. \u00a0\u201cAfter the lap 21 caution Bruce gave me a shot in the back bumper to let me know he was there, as if I didn\u2019t know it already. \u00a0I tried driving the car twice as hard as I was going before and it just didn\u2019t feel right after that, but I guess I wanted this win tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kreig Heroth, Camden Proud, Mike Bond, Jack Patrick, and Scott Shafer rounded out the top ten finishers in Saturday\u2019s SBS Summer Championship.<\/p>\n

Cameron Rowe and Bearup led the field to the green Saturday with Bearup jumping out front early in the No. 37.<\/p>\n

Doyle would eventually come on from third, diving to the race lead at lap six and quickly jumping to a comfortable margin.<\/p>\n

After starting fifth, Bruce would find the third spot before the halfway point in the No. 22 and at lap 15 the top ten rundown showed Doyle, Bearup, Bruce, Heroth, Losurdo, Proud, Cliff, and Bond in the top spots.<\/p>\n

With only ten laps to go, Bruce made a nice charge to the outside of Bearup to try to score the second position, but Bearup would fight back on the low side. \u00a0The two runners would eventually come up behind the lapped car of Alex McRae, with the McRae No. 14 swapping ends after having been heavily pressured by both Bearup and Bruce to make way.<\/p>\n

The caution with nine laps to go allowed Bruce to draw to the back bumper of Doyle ahead of Bearup, Heroth, Losurdo, Cliff, Bond, Proud, Patrick, and Rowe.<\/p>\n

After the restart the real race was from third on back as Losurdo, Cliff and Bond were locked in a tremendous race to try to find top five positions along with Bearup.<\/p>\n

As Doyle and Bruce ran off to the top two positions, Losurdo was able to squeeze his way into the third position in the No. 1, making his way by Bearup on the last circuit of the 30-lap affair.<\/p>\n

Proud, Bearup, and Patrick scored Shell Shock Custom Helmet Paint Heat Race Challenge victories as Doyle collected the Sherwood Racing Wheels Lap Leader Award.<\/p>\n

Racing at Oswego Speedway continues on Saturday, July 23 with the Davis Bros. Inc. $10,000 to win Mr. Novelis Supermodified and the $1,500 to win Mr. Pathfinder Bank SBS.<\/p>\n

Kids 16 and under with paid adult and active military with I.D. are free.<\/p>\n
