April 20, 2022 – Clovis, CA…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), winged supermodified sim racing season draws to a close with the 18th Annual Season Summit Classic, April 24-27, 2022 at Madera Speedway. The 18th Annual Summit Classic 125 is the forty-first and final race of SUPRS eighteenth consecutive Gold Crest Wing Championship season and is also the second leg of the 2022 SUPRS Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing presented by Icings on Top.
In 17 previous races, three drivers account for nearly all of the wins in this race. Ray Sand, Jr. sits alone on top of the Summit win list with five, the next closest is John Davidson and Bob Gangwer who both have three Summit Classic wins. Considered one of the toughest races on the schedule to finish, let alone win, the Summit Classic has never been won by any driver that started further back on the grid than sixth, and has been won from the front row the majority of the time.
Ohh Looking for Redemption
One of those drivers that has won from the front row once, and almost did the same last year, is SUPRS Champion Dave Ohh of Union, CT. Ohh will be looking for redemption after being well on his way to winning his second Summit Classic in a row in 2021 when he lost internet connection after leading the first 86 laps of the race.
Brad Keysor, who had kept Ohh within a straightaway but was unable to get close enough to make the pass for the lead, took over the top spot when Ohh ghosted into internet oblivion and went on to win the race by one lap over former Summit Classic winners, “Rocket” Rob Warren, and two laps over Bob Gangwer who was third.
Former Winners and First-Time Starters Make Up Stout Field
A stout field that included former winners, and drivers hoping to make their first Summit Classic start, are expected to fill the pits at Madera Speedway beginning on Sunday 4/24. At least three former winners, (Keysor, Ohh, Gangwer), are making up that list, with Keysor and Ohh being the favorite to duke it out for the win. It is uncertain if 2017 Summit Classic victor, and SUPRS All-Time feature winner, Rob Warren will make try to win his second Summit Classic, but he is a Guaranteed Starter for the race and that may be just enough to convince him to get back behind the wheel of his 1st to Finish Rocket Roadster after taking a break from racing.
SUPRS officials also believe that three drivers will attempt to make the field for their first Summit Classic start. If Anthony Corsoniti, Ryan Cloonan, and Greg Breen make the show, they all have a shot at the Summit Classic Rookie of the Race award. All the aforementioned drivers, (but Breen), have locked down the top five positions in the SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Point Standings.
No matter how you slice it, all indications point to a great week of racing with good car counts and exceptional drivers from six states competing for the grandest prize in all of winged supermodified sim racing-the Summit Classic Crown.
Summit Classic is Second Race of Triple Crown
Adding to the pressure of just finishing the big race, is the fact that it’s also the second race of the 2022 Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing presented by Icings on Top. To date, just four drivers have won the Triple Crown which also includes the SUPRS All-Star 200, and the Topless! 200 for non-wing supermodifieds.
Ray Sand, Jr. was the first driver to take the Triple Crown in 2011. It took six years before Rob Warren became the second. Then more recently, Dave Ohh won his Triple Crown. Last year Brad Keysor joined Sand, Jr. and Warren with a “perfect” Triple Crown by winning all three races in the same calendar year.
Ohh has repeatedly stated that he wants to win all three Triple Crown races in the same season so that he can join the other three “perfect” Triple Crown winners.
Triple Crown Winners:
- Ray Sand, Jr.: 2011*
- Rob Warren: 2017*
- Dave Ohh: 2020
- Brad Keysor: 2021*

Cars on Track Beginning Sunday 4/24
SUPRS Sunday Night Test-N-Tune kicks off the on-track action April 24. This special edition starts at 7:00pm ET with a systems checks before the Drivers’ Meeting at 7:10 when the competitors will draw for their Tuesday qualifying slot, and practice groups for the week. The NASCAR Heat winged supermodifieds take to the 1/3 mile to allow drivers that are eligible for the Cherry Breaker 63 to get up to speed. The Cherry Breaker is a special invitation only race for drivers that have never won a SUPRS winged supermodified feature.
To close out this special Sunday Night Test-N-Tune, the drivers will slide into their rFactor winged supermodifieds to get tuned up for the Summit Classic 125. The rFactor part of the night begins around 7:45pm.
NASCAR Heat Monday Night
Actual racing action starts on Monday, April 25 with the Cherry Breaker 63. This NASCAR Heat race for winged supermodifieds is for registered SUPRS Silver Crest and Gold Crest Members that have never won a SUPRS sanctioned winged supermodified feature event, and have started at least three SUPRS features. The winner becomes the last guaranteed starter of the 18th Annual Summit Classic 125.
The wing supermodifieds roll out at 8:00pm for Hot Laps, and the expected start time for the NASCAR Heat winged supermodified 63 lap feature is around 8:40pm. Practice for the Summit Classic will follow the conclusion of the Cherry Breaker feature.
Summit Classic Pole Night Tuesday
On Tuesday, all focus switches to hitting the hammer hard, and standing on the gas at the 18th Summit Classic Pole Night. Drivers will be going as fast as they can, because only the top two qualifiers are locked into the Summit Classic, and in a race that’s been won from the row more often than not, a good qualifying lap will put a driver in the best spot on the grid to win. Drivers that don’t make the front row, will be headed for the qualifying Heat Races and possibly a B-Main to determine their starting spot for the 125.
Practice for the pole starts on Tuesday 4/26 at 7:20pm. The drivers take to the track at 8:35pm for single car time-trials and the thrilling run for the Summit Classic 125 pole. The qualifying heat races will follow at approximately 8:45pm as long as there are at least 12 drivers present. Otherwise the field will be set by Time Trials.
Season Summit on Wednesday
Then on Wednesday April 27 the season finale’ for the 41 race, 2021-22 SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship takes place with the running of the 18th Annual Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway. The SUPRS racers will attempt to add their name to the elite list of just eight different drivers that have won this virtual sim race at the “West Coast Home of the Supermodifieds.”
The night begins with Systems Checks at 7:00pm. The first practice session is reserved for Summit Classic Rookies and starts at 7:10pm ET. Drivers that have started a previous Summit Classic take the track at 7:20pm. The Drivers’ Meeting follows practice from 8:00-8:10pm.
A final, full fuel load, warmup will take place at 8:10pm. At 8:30pm pre-race festivities including interviews, National Anthem, Awards Ceremonies and Driver Introductions begin when SUPRS LIVE! goes on the air.
2010 Summit Classic winner, and former SUPRS Champion, “Mighty” Myles Maxon, has been named the Grand Marshall of the event and if his busy schedule allows, he will join esteemed announcer James East in the broadcast booth to add insight, and give the command for the drivers to strap into their winged supermodifieds as they make their final preparations for the drop of the green flag on the 18th Annual Summit Classic 125 at 9:10pm.
Catch the Summit Classic Action Live
Fans, family and friends can take in all the 18th Annual SUPRS Summit Classic action, all week long with SUPRS LIVE! and Twitch.
