New Venues Added, Other Races Shuffled on 2017-18 SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Schedule

Goshen, IN – September 26, 2017… The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), has officially released its 2017-18 Gold Crest Wing Supermodified  Schedule, highlighted by seven new venues for an exciting seven month schedule of 42 race dates.

With the addition of the new venues, there’s been some shuffling of SUPRS long standing events to different tracks with the hope that the schedule more closely emulates what real supermodified racing is like. This shuffling has also allowed for an expanded West Coast Swing and an additional show for both the Empire State Super Series and Indyana Supermod Challenge Regional Tours.

Traversing the Country and Canada

The SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship will be contested across 16 states and Canada and will visit many real tracks that have held real supermodified races. The sanction has added a total of seven new venues including Myrtle Beach Speedway, (SC), Airborne Raceway Park, (NY), Lee USA Speedway, (NH), Five Flags Speedway, (FL), Rocky Mountain Raceways, (UT), I-70 Speedway, (MO), and Thompson International Speedway, (CT). The Rocky Mountain and I-70 dates mark the first time that SUPRS has ever visited Utah and Missouri. The sanction attempted to run at Myrtle Beach Speedway last year but the race was canceled so mark South Carolina down as a first time state for SUPRS as well.

Drivers will be battling for the win using both the NASCAR Heat and rFactor gaming platforms. While staying true to the the original platform of NASCAR Heat, the sanction has continued its move towards more rFactor dates, and this season the rFactor dates on the schedule has increased by one to 28 total.

Harvest of Speed is October 10

The season kicks off with a NASCAR Heat show on October 10 with the 14th Annual Harvest of Speed at LaPorte Speedway. Kicking off the season at LaPorte is a tradition that dates back to the very first SUPRS sanctioned show in October of 2004. At that time SUPRS used the “PSTM” modification for NASCAR Heat by Mike Jackson. Today, the sanction uses it’s own mod but keeps the tradition of alive at LaPorte as a nod to their own rich history of NASCAR Heat format racing.

Salem Returns

Salem Speedway returns to the schedule for the first time since 2015 and joins LaPorte Speedway and Indianapolis Raceway Park as part of the expanded Indyana Supermod Challenge regional tour. The Hurryin’ Hoosier 30 is a non-wing supermodified show which pays homage to the past when supermodifieds raced annually at the southern Indiana speedplant.

North Carolina Swing Moves

The North Carolina Swing moves back where it had traditionally been run for most of the sanction’s history to the third week of October. This very tough swing has five races in three nights with the first two shows being NASCAR Heat based. The NC Swing will again be contested on Dasera Raceway, Caraway Speedway, Southern National Raceway Park and Concord Motorsports Park. The fifth of and final race of the week is The Hickory Hustle where only the top eight drivers after the first four races receive an invitation to race for the North Carolina Swing crown.

Chance for Big Bonus Points

Joining the North Carolina Swing, The Keystone Nationals, and Florida Speedweeks make for a great chance to score bonus points throughout the season. Points are kept for each race of these multi-race swings and it’s a real accomplishment to bring home the crown in any of them.

Remembering Real Racers

SUPRS continues to honor supermodified racers lost in competition with the Dion Parish Memorial 62 in December, the Terry Gibson Memorial 100

in January, the Billy Vukovich III Classic 100 in February, and the Randy Witkum Memorial 125 in March. Theses races all carry a guaranteed starter bonus for the winner that can be used at the season ending 14th Annual Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway in April.

Favorites are Back

Long-standing events such as the Turkey Shoot, Wing Side Up Twin 25s and Christmas Special in December haven’t gone anywhere. As well, the Groundhog Day Derby, Veterans Day and Presidents Day Specials, St. Patrick’s Day Grab O’ the Green, Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby at Mosport and the SUPRS Copper World Classic are all on the schedule once again.

Triple Crown and Dash Bonus Extra Incentives

SUPRS Triple Crown presented by Icings on Top graphic

The SUPRS Triple Crown presented by Icings on Top has only been won twice.

Of course two of the three SUPRS Triple Crown presented by Icings on Top races take place during the wing supermodified sim racing season. The first is the 9th Annual SUPRS All-Star Classic on April 10. This 200 lap spectacular is modeled after the Star Speedway International Classic that has been going on for 52 years.

The second leg of the SUPRS Triple Crown presented by Icings on Top is also the final race of the year. The 14th Annual Summit Classic Week has been reduced down to just two days in order to get the season wrapped up early in May. Time Trials to lock in the front row are on Monday April 30 while the Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway takes the green flag on Tuesday May 1, 2018.

A driver that can win those two races and the third and final race of the SUPRS Triple Crown presented by Icings on Top, (the Topless! 200), receives a special award at years end. To date, only Ray Sand, Jr. and Rob Warren have accomplished this amazing task.

The season the SUPRS Fast Car Dash Challenge awards drivers that win a Fast Car Dash with five points. At the end of the season the points get tallied and the driver with the most, wins a special award. This challenge is similar to the old Heat Race Challenge that ran for a few years in the early days of the sanction.
