Second Summit Classic 125 for Bob Gangwer, Leads Start to Finish

Madera, CA – April 27, 2016…For the second year in a row, Bob Gangwer covered the field and won the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS),  12th Annual Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway.

Bob Gangwer takes the checkered flag first for the second year in a row in the SUPRS Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway.

Driving the Wing Side Up Enterprises, RW Woodworking Scriba Turkey Buzzard chassis, Gangwer dominated the race leading all 125 laps after setting fast time and starting from the pole position, and ran the fastest lap of the race.

“Man, I’m ready for a PBR!” Gangwer shouted. “To join the ranks of guys like John Davidson, Ray Sand, Jr. and Myles Maxon as multi-time winners is something special, not that I’ll never be in the same stratosphere as those guys mind you, but this is way cool man.”

“Like I said last night, the start was critical as was keeping the car clean,” he said. “Thankfully everything went like I had hoped it would and here I am.”

Gangwer finished over three seconds ahead of Rob Warren who was second in the First to Finish Race Servers car. Carl Becker brought the Dowker Titanium Roadster home for his best Summit Classic 125 finish ever with solid third place.

“Congratulations to Bob he just lit the afterburners and was gone,” said Warren.

The second place finisher further stated, “I was just running laps trying to keep pace with the leader but I just couldn’t. I was doing my best just to keep up and every ten laps I’d lose a tenth on him. I’d gain a bit but then I’d lose it.”

Carl Becker stood on the Summit Classic 125 podium for the first time and was somewhat surprised saying, “Ray was in front of me on the start going into turn one and I didn’t have any expectations of passing him back.”

“We must have run 35 or 40 laps with everyone pulling away. Then it occurred to me that I was catching Ray,” Becker said.  I  can’t rightly say what happened but we got to the point where we were in the turns together and he just moved up. and I went by him. Congratulations to Bob, he had a heckuva race tonight.”

“The car just fell off 25 or 35 laps into it. We were fast in the short run. It was a wicked pace tonight, congrats to Bob,” said five-time Summit Classic 125 Champion Ray Sand, Jr.

Though they qualified, Jeff Bivens and Rick Walls were unable to make the show due to other commitments, while former winner Steve Callahan was called into work.

The SUPRS racers will take a much-needed break for the month of May so that many of the members can enjoy the start of the real supermodified season, including the Oswego Speedway season opener and the Vukovich Classic at Madera Speedway. Several others plan to make their way to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 100th Indianapolis 500 Mile Race.

SUPRS will fire up the 12th season of non-wing online supermodified sim racing the first week of June when they take to an updated version of Oswego Speedway for the second year using the SUPRS rFactor mod.
