Fresno, CA – April 21, 2016…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), will close the 2015-16 SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship season with the 12th running of the Summit Classic 125.

The 12th Annual Summit Classic 125 is the forty-second race of the 2015-2016 Gold Crest Wing Championship and part of the SUPRS Triple Crown.

Action begins on Sunday with Test-N-Tune at 8pm. Then, for the first time during Summit Classic, a non-wing supermodified race for rFactor will be held on Monday at 8pm.

Scheduled for Tuesday, the invitation only Cherry Breaker 63 for drivers that have never won a SUPRS wing supermodified feature, will take place prior to Time Trials for the 12th Annual SUPRS Summit Classic 125.

Finally on Wednesday, the grand finale for SUPRS happens and the drivers will try to add their name to the long list of winners of the Summit Classic 125.  Practice begins at 7:45p with the green flag dropping on the Summit Classic 125 starting field at 9:15pm.

In 12 years only five drivers have won this challenging race with Ray Sand, Jr. being the all-time winner with five.

This year with the non-wing supermodifieds will be racing on Monday and it’s a good possibility that Sand, Jr. will be crowned a SUPRS Champion for the 10th time.

Rob Warren pulled to within 93 points with his win in the Golden State Special at Buckley Speedway last week and has a mathematical chance at catching  Sand, Jr. if he does well on Monday.

Only the Top 2 time trialed drivers are locked into the Summit Classic 125 with everyone else having to race their way in through heat races.

Steady Steve Hopes to Turn Season Around at Stafford

Goshen, IN – March 18, 2016…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), will be racing at the online version of Jack Arute’s Stafford Motor Speedway Tuesday March 22, 2016.

SUPRS Xtreme Tuesday poster

BreezeGraphics.com always goes to the Xtreme when it comes to race posters.

This race is the 34th of the season and will mark the seventh straight year that SUPRS has raced at this venue since being completed in December of 2009. This particular race is modeled after, and named for, one that ran at Stafford for several years and featured the International Supermodified Association along with the New England Midget Association.

Steve Callahan of Cuyahoga Falls, OH excels at this track and is easily the online king of Stafford Motor Speedway. He’s won four of the six  SUPRS races contested so far at Stafford Motor Speedway, taking his first two back to back in 2010-2011, then doing the same in 2014  and 2015.

Steve Callahan winning at SUPRS Stafford Motor Speedway supermodified sim racing event

“Steady” Steve Callahan extended his win streak to five in a row when he won the 2014 SUPRS Xtreme Tuesday event at Stafford Motor Speedway.

When he won in 2014, it marked the fifth SUPRS win in a row for Callahan that season and he had a ‘bounty’ placed on his head.  Then in 2015, while he was embroiled in an intense points battle with Myles Maxon and Rob Warren, he kept his hopes of winning his first SUPRS Championship alive.

This season, “Steady” Steve only has one thought on his mind, getting his first feature win of the season as he has yet to put his Exide Battery sponsored machine in victory lane.

“This year has been a very frustrating one,” began Callahan.  “We haven’t been running very good and have had nothing but bad luck.”

The likable SUPRS racer that has over 500 feature starts went on to say, “Stafford is a place where we think we can turn the season around. This place has been very good to us in the past and we are looking forward to getting back up front and racing for the win.”

Callahan will be joined by a host of other supermodified sim racers when practice begins at 8:00pm Tuesday March 22 with the driver’s meeting to follow at 8:15pm. All of the drivers will be attempting to beat Myles Maxon’s track record of 15.095 when they take to the track at 8:30pm for time-trials. Racing will begin with qualifying heats at 9:oopm

SUPRS Racers Gearing Up for 11th Keystone Nationals

SUPRS Keystone Nationals Features Race Honoring Randy Witkum

Goshen, IN – March 4, 2016…After three weeks of racing west of the Mississippi, the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), is settling back into their eastern stomping grounds and are ready to run the 11th Annual Keystone Nationals featuring the Randy Witkum Memorial beginning Tuesday.

BreezeGraphics.com can produce event posters and graphics like this for you.

This multi-race swing through the state of Pennsylvania challenges the SUPRS racers over the course of three nights on three very distinctive race tracks as they battle each other for the Keystone Nationals Championship and the valuable bonus points that go along with the crown.

SEE 2015 10th Annual Keystone Nationals Highlights

The first race of the swing gets rolling at Harrisburg Speedway Tuesday March 8. This flat, fast and tricky half-mile has a tendency to  swallow up  any racer that gets too close to the inside rail or let’s the car drift too wide off of the corners. The 50 lap feature race is always full of excitement and close racing.

On Wednesday night the racers will compete at RT 93 Raceway which is also a half-mile. Many SUPRS racers compare it to the legendary and now defunct Flemington Speedway and while being somewhat square, say that the fast way around is to run a near perfect circle. They’ll be doing that for 5o laps and trying not to get too dizzy.

Finally, on Thursday evening, the Keystone Nationals will culminate with a race that is one of the longest running in SUPRS history; The Randy Witkum Memorial. It will be the 12th time SUPRS has run this 125 lap grind at the famed Jennerstown Speedway racing to honor the memory of the late Randy Witkum.

Witkum was a young supermodified racer, and part of an iconic supermodified racing family who tragically lost his life while participating in an International Supermodified Association heat race event at Jennerstown in 1999.

Last year Bob Gangwer joined Gary Waldron and Rob Warren as a two-time winner of the Randy Witkum Memorial and became the first driver to sweep all three races of the Keystone Nationals which gave him his second Keystone crown. It also made him just the second SUPRS racer to claim the Keystone Nationals more than once.

Myles Maxon is the all-time leader in Keystone Nationals Championships with  four. The winner of the Randy Witkum Memorial will become a guaranteed starter for the season ending Summit Classic 125 in April.

The SUPRS racers will use the tried and true NASCAR Heat SUPRS V6 winged supermodified throughout the three-nights of sim racing. Practice each night starts at 8:00pm with a full format of Time Trials, Heats, and Feature to follow.

Supermodified Sim Racers Ready for SUPRS Copper World Classic

Share SUPRS:

Avondale, AZ – February 27, 2016…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), will take up residence at Phoenix International Raceway March 1, 2016 for the SUPRS Copper World Classic XII.

BreezeGraphics.com posters always look as good as this!

This annual event features winged supermodified, non-wing supermodified  sim racing on the one mile paved oval in Arizona. With 50 laps of feature racing plus time trials and heats, this event is modeled after the popular Copper World Classic held annually at PIR from 1977-2009.

Feature start for supermodifieds at Copper World Classic 2001

The supermodifieds were a part of the Copper World Classic  from 1984 to 2002 with one year off in 1991. Davey Hamilton has the most Copper World Classic wins with five and Troy Regier has the record for most wins in a row at three. Doug Saunier was the very first winner and Lonnie Adamson was the last supermodified winner of the Copper World Classic.

Curt Kern of Kern Motorsports, the sponsor of the SUPRS Copper World Classic was involved as an official for the supermodifieds for several years. “Some years I was on the ground in the pit area and a couple of years in the tower running race control for the supers,” explained the Washington state native.

“For me, then, it was a pretty stressful position, but I looked forward to the five days in Phoenix every year. I also dreaded it at the same time,” he said.

“It was a pretty high-speed joint for us and I was always fearful of a “Rex Beach” type of accident. I went from loving the cars on the mile to be believing as an official, that it was too big of a track, but I doubt you’d convince very many drivers of that.”

SUPRS Members Racing

Here’s Curt Kern at an NSRA race. Curt is a SUPRS Member as well as former president of the NSRA.

While Kern’s involvement with the real supermodified division wound down to an end in the late 1990’s, he continues to support the online version. “I’m honored to still be involved with SUPRS and their version of the Copper World Classic and consider Bobby and John both good friends,” he said. “I only wish I could get set up and come back and get in everyone’s way again,” joked Kern. “The event at the time was the supermodified community’s version of the Indy 500 and to have SUPRS continue to run that event is pretty cool. Good luck to all and thank you for allowing me to be a part of the show.”

Last year Myles Maxon finally got his first win at the SUPRS Copper World Classic after many years of trying and set a New Track Record, (his ninth of the 2014-15 season) in the wing supermodifieds, stopping the clocks with a 22.744 and besting Ray Sand, Jr.’s six year old record of 22.750. Sand, Jr. then qualified fastest of the non-wing supermodifieds at 23.061.

Steve Callahan was once again a major factor on the “Desert Mile” and after winning the non-wing sim supermodified race in 2014, he came back last year to claim the wing sim supermodified race. Steve said, “This is a tough track with three different turns and you have to be perfect in every corner and keep the momentum up.”

Although he’s won at Phoenix International Speedway in a modified, Rob Warren is looking for his first SUPRS Copper World Classic supermodified win. It’s something that has eluded him and something he hopes to change in 2016. “It would be difficult to say how much a win would mean here,” began the Pulaski, NY driver. “Any win, at the stout level of competition in this league is special but Phoenix would be a little more special to me because while I’ve done very well in a modified here, I would really like a supermodified win here too.”

Warren believes his particular style of driving is well suited to the fast one mile track, “Everybody has a few tracks that they ‘expect’ to do well at. Places where their driving style lines up better. I tend to be off throttle earlier than most, roll through the center and get a good exit hard on he go pedal so just the way I drive, that works great at Phoenix,” he said.

This year, SUPRS officials will combine feature finish points for the wing and non-wing races to decide an overall SUPRS Copper World Classic Champion. Unlike earlier seasons, the driver that wears that crown will have to be proficient not only in both types of sim supermodified cars, but will also need to be consistent across two different gaming platforms and versions of the online track.

SUPRS will use the tried and true NASCAR Heat SUPRS V6 wing supermodified on the stock Phoenix International Raceway, then will switch to the SUPRS NWV1 non-wing supermodified and use ThePits.US version of PIR. Creating even more of a challenge will be the rFactor,  ThePits.US  track is the updated and more modern version of PIR, where, the NASCAR Heat example is the original PIR layout.
