Supermodified fan for over 30 years. Heard about this MOD and had to give it try! Been doing graphic art and design for along time. Owner of Breezegraphics Supermodified Art. Specializing in Vinyl Stickers and Window Clings. So designing my own paint scheme is right up my alley. :) Looking to enjoy some SUPRS racing and meet some new friends. Picked #77 in honor of "The King of Supermodifieds" Bentley Warren. I'll never forget that ragged old car (former swift 10pins) he used to muscle around The Steel Palace in the 70's.

SUPRS Racers Steer to Stafford This Week

Goshen, IN – March 22, 2015…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series will be racing at the online version of Jack Arute’s Stafford Motor Speedway Tuesday March 24, 2015.

Visit our Schedule Page for more info.

This race is the 35th of the season and will mark the sixth straight year that SUPRS has raced at this venue since being completed by Doug “Flash” Forgue in December of 2009.

This particular race is one that Steve Callahan of Cayuhoga Falls, OH excels in, having won three of the five SUPRS races contested so far at Stafford Motor Speedway. He won the first two back to back then in 2014 won his third.

Callahan is embroiled in a very tight points battle with last week’s winner Rob Warren and while he worries about Warren, he still has a mathematical shot at taking the 2015-16 SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship if current point leader Myles Maxon falters.

Practice begins at 8:00pm Tuesday March 24 with the driver’s meeting to follow at 8:15pm. All of the drivers will be attempting to beat Myles Maxon’s one year old track record of 15.095 when they take to the track at 8:30pm for time-trials. Racing will begin with qualifying heats at 9:oopm

SUPRS Racers Looking for the Pot of Gold at Dover

Share SUPRS:

With the points battle hotter than ever this season the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series drivers have a lot to lay on the line as they take on the “Monster Mile” at Dover International Raceway tonight for the St. Patrick’s Day Grab O’ the Green race.

Last year, after a seven-year absence, the race returned to where it started at Dover Downs and was won by Steve Callahan after he led all 25 laps of the feature. It also kicked off an amazing five race win streak for “Steady” Steve.

The speeds will be up and the nerves ragged as many of the SUPRS competitors battle the banks, the draft and each other on “The Monster Mile.” Last year Ray Sand, Jr. broke Bud Flath’s track record of 19.793 set on March 16, 2005, when he turned in a 18.992.

In the first three years of the race Dover Downs played host to the roaring winged supermodifieds with wins going to Kevin Marine, Randy Ritskes and Kris Heveron.

For the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons, after a three-year run on the mile, SUPRS officials decided to move away from the longer tracks other than Phoenix and New Hampshire International Speedway The St. Patrick’s day event was then moved to Stafford Mountain Speedway and became part of the Empire State Super Series races.  Bud Flath and Ray Sand, Jr. picked up the wins at the high banked half mile New York venue.

Continuing with a focus on short tracks, the race moved west of the Mississippi to Buckley Speedway in California and run prior to the Billy Vukovich III Classic. Canadian Jamie Hartley was victorious in the one and only time the St. Patrick’s Day Grab O’ the Green was raced there.

For the next several years, SUPRS focused on a smaller schedule and the St. Patrick’s Day Grab O’ the Green was dropped due to fact that there were fewer races during the season.

Practice begins at 8pm and Time Trials will take place at 8:30pm. Racing for the supermodifieds will begin with heat races at 8:45pm and the feature will go off around 9:00pm. The Luck of the Leprechaun Modified 75 is tentatively scheduled to run after the completion of all supermodified racing.

SUPRS Copper World Classic Emulates Real Race

Avondale, AZ – March 1, 2015…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series will take up residence at Phoenix International Raceway March 3, 2015 for the SUPRS Copper World Classic X.

SUPRS 2015 copper world classic poster

This annual event features wing supermodified, non-wing supermodified, and pavement modified sim racing on the one mile paved oval in Arizona. With over 150 laps of online  racing, this event is modeled after the popular Copper World Classic held annually at PIR from 1977-2009.

The supermodifieds were a part of the Copper World Classic  from 1984 to 2002 with one year off in 1991. Davey Hamilton has the most Copper World Classic wins with five and Troy Regier has the record for most wins in a row at three. Doug Saunier was the very first winner and Lonnie Adamson was the last supermodified winner of the Copper World Classic.

Curt Kern of Kern Motorsports, the sponsor of the SUPRS Copper World Classic was involved as an official for the supermodifieds for several years. “Some years I was on the ground in the pit area and a couple of years in the tower running race control for the supers,” explained the Washington state native.

“For me, then, it was a pretty stressful position, but I looked forward to the five days in Phoenix every year. I also dreaded it at the same time,” he said.

“It was a pretty high-speed joint for us and I was always fearful of a “Rex Beach” type of accident. I went from loving the cars on the mile to be believing as an official, that it was too big of a track, but I doubt you’d convince very many drivers of that.”

While Kern’s involvement with the real supermodified division wound down to an end in the late 1990’s, he continues to support the online version. “I’m honored to still be involved with SUPRS and their version of the Copper World Classic and consider Bobby and John both good friends,” he said. “I only wish I could get set up and come back and get in everyone’s way again,” joked Kern. “The event at the time was the supermodified communities version of the Indy 500 and to have SUPRS continue to run that event is pretty cool. Good luck to all and thank you for allowing me to be a part of the show.”

The 2014 edition of the SUPRS Copper World Classic was one of the most exciting ever. Ray Sand, Jr. claimed his second Copper World Classic winged supermodified victory and also  won the modified part of the event. The only person stopping him from a full sweep of the SUPRS Copper World Classic was Steve Callahan taking the victory in the 25 lap non-wing supermodified feature.

Current point leader “Mighty” Myles Maxon will be looking for his first SUPRS Copper World Classic win. He’s been close several times in the past, including last year where he finished second to Sand, Jr. after a race long battle of epic proportions.

Groundhog Day Derby Format Depends on Punxsutawney Phil

Share SUPRS:

The Groundhog Day Derby is always one of the most interesting and intense races that the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series runs each season and this year is sure to be no different.

Letting Punxsutawney Phil find the format for the night may sound a bit odd,  but SUPRS has done it that way for this race for 11 years and it always keeps things just as unpredictable as trying to judge what the weather will do.

The racing at Derry Raceway Park is  so unpredictable in fact, that there has never been a repeat winner of the race. A lot of that has to do with the racetrack as much as the format of this event. Derry Raceway Park features two completely different ends with turn one and two having a good deal of banking and turn three and four being almost off-camber creating a challenge to racers on each lap.

Ray Sand, Jr. finally has his season rolling after being crowned SUPRS Mid-Season Champion at Oswego Speedway last week and is the defending winner of the race. Sand, Jr.,  Steve Callahan, (the current track record holder), and Chris Meyers, and Myles Maxon are all hoping to become the first multi-time winner. The rest of the field will be looking for their first as well as grabbing some of the extra bonus points that are available for this race.
