Bob Gangwer Wins Second Round of  SUPRS Keystone Nationals at RT 93 Raceway for Second Year in Row

Slusser, PA – March 9, 2016…After years of struggling at RT 93 Raceway, Bob Gangwer has apparently found his way around the “Square Circle” and now has two Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), wins in a row at the Slusser, PA speedplant. Gangwer won for the second year in  a row on night two of the 2016 11th Annual Keystone Nationals, and in a near complete repeat of last year’s race, Rob Warren and Ray Sand, Jr. completed the top three.

Bob Gangwer won race 2 of the SUPRS 11th Annual Keystone Nationals at RT 93.

Starting from row two, Gangwer was able to make his way past Ray Sand, Jr. into second place  by lap 10. Then he chased down leader Rob Warren and repeated the move he used on Sand, Jr. to take the lead and the win in the Wing Side Up, RW Woodworking sim racing supermodified.

“I love this joint,” Gangwer yelled.  “I have to tell you, I’ve never NOT liked this track, I just never did very well at it up until last year. So to win again this year and to be able to put the car where I wanted too again is really something for me.”

Last year Rob Warren was the leader until lap 12 when Gangwer made a bold move and passed him on the outside. This year Warren held on until lap 15 but then he fell victim to a sneak attack by Gangwer on the inside of the middle of turn three and four.

Rob Warren loses the lead to Bob Gangwer at RT 93 Raceway.

“I’ve never really been all too good at this place and never really had much luck at this place I don’t think,” said Warren. ” I got a good start but started over driving and I have no idea how, but the 25 went flying by me in turn three like I was on the brake pedal. Bob had a super fast car tonight, congrats to him.”

Warren won the heat race and holds onto the Keystone Nationals point lead by a scant five points over Ray Sand, Jr.

Ray Sand, Jr., winner of the 2014 race here at RT 93, had prior commitments and was unavailable for comment after the race.

Carl Becker, however, spoke freely about his fourth place finish after being away from sim racing for almost a year. “I was kind of thinking maybe I’d just let the other guys go by me, but then I got to thinkin’ that I was running pretty good,” said the Lansing, MI resident. “I think I got to lap 25 before I kissed that wall, but it was fun and I kind of started to get a feel for it again so I’m glad I got to race.”

Becker then added jokingly, “I’ll come back tomorrow and show everybody how slow I can be at Jennerstown tomorrow night.”

The rest of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series racers will join Becker at the Keystone Nationals finale tomorrow evening with the running of the 12th Annual Randy Witkum Memorial 125 at Jennerstown Speedway, a race that Gangwer, Sand, Warren and Steve Callahan have all won. Practice gets underway at 7:45pm with racing slated to go at 9:00pm.
