Calamity Claims Leader, Callahan Claims Bluegrass Win at Redball

Share SUPRS:

October 9, 2018… Looking more like a super hero frantically dodging bullets than the calm steady supermodified sim racer he is, Steve Callahan was in the right place at the right time to avoid being collected in a late race crash that took out leader Rob Warren and came home the winner of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Bluegrass 50  Tuesday at Redball Raceway. Bob Gangwer came home in second and Kyle Clark was third.

Callahan Happy but Humble

For the soft-spoken Callahan, the win was a sweet one this early in the season. Even so he remained humble in victory lane saying, “I didn’t do anything special, I just held it straight and that old adage of “aim for them, (when they are crashing in front of you), and hopefully they won’t be there when you get there” worked. That was nuts man, that was totally unexpected.”

Win Slips from Warren’s Grasp.

The Bluegrass 50 had Rob Warren signing the blues after the lap 46 spin and ensuing crash with Keith Powell took him out of contention for the win. Warren had led the entire race up to that point, and looked to be the sure victor until the car got loose on him and he looped the 1st to Finish Race Servers rocket going into turn one.

SUPRS Heads to Virginia Next

The next track on the schedule is one where Steve Callahan has more wins than any other driver in SUPRS history, New River Valley Speedway in Radford, VA. Callahan goes for two SUPRS wins in a row and his fifth career win at NRV at the Old Dominion 50 ,October 16, 2018.

Practice beings at 8:00pm followed by Time Trials at 8:30pm. The green flag flies for the Fast Car Dash at 9:05pm, with Heat Races and the 50 lap feature to follow. The race is scheduled to be broadcast on SUPRS LIVE! starting at 9:00pm.
