Myles Maxon 2 for 3 in SUPRS Competition, Steve Callahan Brings Home First ESS Championship
Myles Maxon had no practice, started fourth and then methodically worked his way to the front of the pack, passing leader Bob Gangwer with 15 laps to go to claim his second Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series win of the season. The Byron Brawl was the final Empire State Super Series race and was held at Byron2 Speedway. Steve Callahan crossed the line in fourth place finishing well enough to seal the 2013-14 ESS Championship, his first.
“This was one heckuva race and a challenge to keep the car clean. I want to say congratulations to Steve on the ESS Championship,” said Maxon.
Gangwer held onto second with Carl Becker having a fine run and ending the night in third place.
Earlier in the evening, Becker briefly held the track record, but Maxon mastered the flats of Byron2 to steal the record away with just one lap and a blistering lap of 10.560 to Becker’s 10.655.
SUPRS will take a week off then be back in action on October 28, 2014 with the annual Black Kat Klassic held at Decatur Speedway. Practice begins at 8:00pm, Time Trials are at 8:45pm and Racing gets underway at 9:00pm.
