July 6, 2018 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), has reached the half-way point of their summer season of supermodified sim racing and the upcoming Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Mid-Season Championship race on July 10 at Oswego Speedway could easily shake up an already tight points battle.

Top Five in Points Close

The race that features a big 100 lap feature paying double points is just the ticket that some drivers would love to cash in With first to fifth in Gold Crest Non-Wing Season Championship Points separated by just 95 points, the racing should be some of the most intense to date this summer.

Extra points, bonuses, and special points for being deemed Mid-Season Champion, mean this is the race that the SUPRS drivers look forward to as they try to make some major championship moves.

Warren, Powell, Clark Sit Up Top

At the top of the championship is 2015, 2017 Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Champion Rob Warren. Not surprisingly 2016 champ Keith Powell has his sights set squarely on Warren, as the only other driver to have won a feature so far this summer. However, Powell is in third, 46 points off the top and it’s the driver that sits in second place a the moment that might be the most hungry for a good points night on July 10 – Kyle Clark.

CURRENT POINT STANDINGS

After flipping back and forth with Powell in the first three races of the season, Clark, who has been off the podium just twice, has yet to finish out of the top five, has consistently put the pressure on the defending and former series champion, and is only 36 points out of first place overall, could easily find himself atop the heap at the of the night if he keeps his streak going.

Callahan Could Make History

Steve Callahan is coming from a great run in the last event where he scored two podium finishes in the Independence Day Twin 35s. And while he is some distance back in the overall points chase, if he can win this race he would make history as the first SUPRS driver to win more than two Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Mid-Season Championship crowns.

Callahan is tied with John Davidson (2006, 2010 Non-Wing Mid-Season Champion), and Kris Heveron ( 2007-08 Non-Wing Mid-Season Champion), and Ray Sand, Jr., (2011, 2012 Non-Wing Mid-Season Champion), for most wins in this important event. Jim Crannell (2005), Devin Gee (2009), Domenic Gioia (2014), and Rob Warren (2017), are the only other racers to have scored Mid-Season Championships for the Non-Wing season. There was no race held in 2013.

Oldest Race on Non-Wing Schedule

The very first points race for the SUPRS Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Championship came on July 6, 2005 with the running of the Independence Day Twin 25s at Jennerstown Speedway. 2006 Gold Crest Non-Wing Champion John Davidson and Canadian Sean Gibbs won those races.

Since then, the event has been held at Jennerstown Speedway two other times. Beginning in 2008 the race moved to the newly designed Oswego Speedway and has been held there since except for 2011 when Bristol Motor Speedway hosted the show and 2012 and 2015 when the event was not held.

Drivers Sweep Both Features Last Two Years

Because of the format and the short race distance, sweeping both features for the night has been very uncommon, with Kris Heveron the only driver to carry out the tall order, that is until the last two installments of this event. In 2016 Chad Phelps surprised many of his competitors when, after being locked out of the win column for over six years, he picked up both features on Independence Day that year.

Then just last year, Rob Warren, after starting fourth in the first 35 and sixth in the second, joined Heveron and Phelps in that rare club of drivers that have swept both races of the Independence Day Twins.

1st to Finish IrReGuLaR 45 Keeps Sim Racers Busy

Share SUPRS:

June 24, 2018 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), will have a busy night of supermodified sim racing with the 1st to Finish “IrReGuLar 45” and a format on June 26 that brings back the good old days of Oswego Speedway.

Whether you want retro or modern, throwback or current, BreezeGraphics.com is your place for marketing and promotional materials.

Throwback to Great Days at Oswego Speedway

1st to Finish “IrReGuLar 45” format is a throwback to the greatest days of racing at the Oswego Speedway. Each week large fields of supermodifieds would try to make the starting line up of the feature. To do so drivers had to race their way through a heat race, a semi-feature and sometimes even a consolation race.  It truly was one of the hardest shows in open wheel racing to make each week.

Why Retro?

Starting in 2012 SUPRS member Rob Warren thought it would be a cool idea to emulate that qualifying process for one night a year as a way to pay homage to the good old days. Warren’s company 1st to Finish, SUPRS official race server supplier, has sponsored the race since the beginning.

“I thought we’d call it “IrReGuLaR” because Oswego, nor SUPRS runs a show that way anymore so it’s out of the norm. Plus it just sounded fun,” Warren stated. “This format is what made Oswego Speedway what it is today,” he continued. “You really had to work hard to make the feature, there was no coasting around saving your equipment like there is today and to me that’s how it should be.”

Official practice for the 1st to Finish “IrReGuLar 45” begins at 8:00pm. There is a Drivers meeting at 8:15pm. Racing is set to start at 9:05pm with the first of two 10 lap qualifying heat races after which two 12 lap semi-features precede the 45 lap feature.
