SUPRS Bounty Adds to Warren’s Worries at Mid-Season Championship

Mid-Season Championship at Oswego Speedway Tuesday, SUPRS Bounty on Rob Warren

January 20, 2017 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), will run its Mid-Season Championship for the Gold Crest Wing Championship XIII on Tuesday January 27, 2017 and double points, multiple bonuses, and a SUPRS Bounty on the current point leader leader Rob Warren’s head, could lead to a big shake-up in the point standings.

SUPRS 2017 Mid-Season Championship poster

SUPRS depends on BreezeGraphics.com to get the word out with awesome posters like this.

The SUPRS Mid-Season Championship has plenty of racing in store for the supermodified sim racers and every time they hit the track they will have a chance to gain valuable points that add up toward the overall Mid-Season Championship.

Points from Time Trials, Heat Races, and double points for the Twin 35 lap features all add up and whoever has the best tally will be crowned SUPRS Mid-Season Champion and grab the 10 bonus points that go with the title.

Learn About the SUPRS Points System

Extra bonus points are up for grabs as well. The SUPRSCharger pays 10 points to the driver that advances the most places from his starting spot and the SUPRS Challenge awards a 10 point bonus to any driver that can win the feature from the last starting place.

While the focus will certainly be on winning the Mid-Season Championship, the racers will also be looking for a big points score in the ongoing Empire State Super Series Regional Tour of which this event is part of. Just last week Rob Warren won the opening round of the ESS season at Akron International Speedway.

Wanted: Rob Warren – A.K.A “Rocket”

With five feature wins in a row dating back to December 13, 2016, Rob Warren has become a wanted man. He is now one of a select few SUPRS drivers that has had to run from the bounty hunters.

The first driver to beat Warren will collect the SUPRS Bounty and will “take” ten points from Warren’s SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship total.

If Warren can keep the streak alive, he will get five championship points added to his total for the night and the bounty will increase by five points up to a total of 25 points for the bounty hunters.

“Rocket” Rob Warren is never one to shy away from a battle and with his history at Oswego Speedway, the bounty hunters will have their work cut out for them.

As a former SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Mid-Season Champion,(2011-12), the Pulaski, NY driver also has a big edge over all other current competitors when it comes to sitting in victory lane at Oswego Speedway.

Even though Warren has plenty of major victories in both wing and non-wing online supermodified races, (including the 2016 Topless! 200), and has 141 points on his nearest contender in the points battle, Keith Powell, when asked recently if he was nervous about losing the points to a bounty hunter he said, “And now a bounty. Nervous? Yeah, I’m wicked nervous.”

If Warren does win the Mid-Season Championship for the winged supermodifieds, he would become the fifth driver in SUPRS history to claim more than one and would join John Davidson, Myles Maxon, Bob Gangwer, and Ray Sand, Jr. who is the all-time Mid-Season Championship winner with four wing and two non-wing and is the defending Mid-Season champ.

Keep an Eye on the Action

It’s not just the middle of the season, but with all of these extra points on the line, it’s a make or break moment for many of the drivers in the points chase and you can be a part of all the drama and intrigue via SUPRS LIVE! on race night.  Keep up with your favorite SUPRS racer in an instant by visiting www.SUPRS.net/site/live.

SUPRS 13th winged supermodified sim racing season continues with the Mid-Season Championship Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Oswego Speedway.

Systems checks begin at 7:00pm, with Practice starting at 8:00pm. Time Trials are at 8:30pm followed by Racing at 9:00pm.

Blind Date Night Kicks off Empire State Super Series

Share SUPRS:

2016-17 Empire State Super Series Tour Blind Date Night Supermodified Sim Race This Week

January 15, 2017 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Empire State Super Series Regional Tour begins on Tuesday January 17 with Blind Date Night.

SUPRS 2017 ESS Blind Date Night Poster

We’ve never met an event poster we didn’t like when BreezeGraphics.com sets up the blind date!

The Empire State Super Series, (ESS), is composed of anywhere between three to six races and run over the course of one year and two SUPRS Gold Crest Seasons. The tour includes only those tracks that are in the state of New York.

The SUPRS Blind Date Night has been a tradition since the very start of the sanction when it ran four races in one night on New Year’s Eve known as the New Year’s Eve 4-n-1 Bash.

After the SUPRS Members decided they’d rather spend time with their family and friends on NYE, the tradition of drawing one out of a potential three tracks continued on for the ESS Tour.

Now with SUPRS running rFactor and NASCAR Heat, a new option opened up where the race could be run using either sim racing platform!

Rob Warren, who has run very well in his home state of NY in the past, is on a string of four wins in a row and is just coming from a huge win at the 9th Annual Terry Gibson Memorial 100.

If he wins this week, a SUPRS Bounty will be placed on the current point leader’s head where some of those championship points could be lost to the driver the ends his winning streak. With Keith Powell and Joe Achzet chomping at his rear tires in the SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship XIII, you can bet he won’t slow down, so keep an eye on the driver of the #35 First to Finish Race Servers ride.

Powell and Achzet have been swapping second and third place in the standings back and forth at nearly every race, yet it’s uncertain how they will fair on Blind Date Night.

ESS Format

Both have completely different styles of driving with Powell being the smooth, calm and calculating racer, while Joe “The Rabbit” Achzet lives up to his nickname every time he’s on the track and is always hammer down from the drop of the green flag.

In addition, neither has competed regularly on ANY of the ESS tracks that could be drawn, or has run many NASCAR Heat races in the last five years, so they may be struggling to keep their championship hopes alive.

2013-14 Empire State Super Series Champion Steve Callahan has just one win this season, but usually starts to pick up momentum around this part of the season. if his fourth place run at the Terry Gibson Memorial last week is any indication he may be on target to pick up his second checkered flag of the season.

Callahan is joined by defending ESS Champion Bob Gangwer as the only other former champion expected to compete. Both are in the top five in points and always run well in New York.

Practice gets under way at 8:00pm with Time Trials at 8:30pm and Racing at 9:00pm.

Terry Gibson Memorial Sim Race Pays Tribute to Fallen Racer

Share SUPRS:

SUPRS Remembers and Honors Terry Gibson with Two-Night Supermodified Sim Racing Event

January 5, 2017 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS),  is proud to present the 9th Annual Terry Gibson Memorial January 10-11, 2017, a two night extravaganza of supermodified sim racing meant to honor the late Terry Gibson.

SUPRS 2017 Terry Gibson Memorial poster by BreezeGraphics.com

BreezeGraphics.com helps SUPRS help others remember real supermodified racers.

Gibson lost his life during a heat race for the Midwest Supermodified Association at Toledo Speedway on July 18, 2008. Terry is survived by his wife Linda, son, Ryan W. Gibson; a daughter, Lindsay N. Kincaid; his mother and father Todd & Brenda Gibson, two brothers, Gene Lee (Lucinda) Gibson, Sandusky; Larry (Lisa) Gibson, Marysville; and a sister, Deb (Randy McElroy) Brady, Richwood.  His brother Jeff (Shannon) Gibson followed him in death in 2012.

Much Anticipation for Many Reasons

The race is one of the most anticipated events of the season and one of several memorial races that SUPRS runs throughout the year to help sim racers and fans remember those drivers killed while racing a real supermodified.

Everything kicks off at 8pm Tuesday, January 10 with practice for the Terry Gibson Fast 50 which many of the drivers use as a tune up for the next night. The winner of this race becomes a guaranteed starter for the Terry Gibson Memorial 100 which takes place on Wednesday, January 11.

Winning the Terry Gibson 100 automatically makes the driver that pulls it off a guaranteed starter for the SUPRS Summit 125 coming up at the end of the season.

The fact that Sandusky Speedway is known as the “North Coast Home of the Supermodifieds,” is where the Gibson family has experienced much of their racing success, hosts part of the real supermodified Triple Crown, (the prestigious International Supermodified Association Hy-Miler Supermodified Nationals), and is cl home track to many SUPRS members, adds even more excitement to this particular event.

One of the Hardest SUPRS Races to Win

Since beginning of the 100 lap event, there have been only four drivers to win it, and of those only two are multi-time winners.

Oswego, New York’s “Mighty” Myles Maxon brought home the inaugural race in 2009.  In 2010 Californian John Davidson won and then Maxon came back in 2011 to win amid a controversial finish that resulted in Dave Biro III being penalized for rough driving and disqualified.

Ray Sand, Jr. battled Fast 50 winner Joe Achzet and came out on top for the win in 2012. Then in 2013, he joined Myles Maxon as a two-time winner of this event and became the first racer to win it back to back. In 2014, the Rochester, NY native made a surprise pass on leader Steve Callahan to win his third straight Terry Gibson Memorial 100.

The start of the 2015 Terry Gibson Memorial 100

2015 saw Sand, Jr. running part-time and with Myles Maxon on a hot streak, many believed Sand, Jr. would struggle to finish on the podium let alone win. Sand, Jr. surprised everyone and swept both nights and after leading every single feature lap in both races,  taking home an unprecedented fourth win in the 100.

Gangwer Puts Sandman Domination to Sleep

When 2016 rolled around, Sand, Jr. was in better shape than the year before and coming into the Terry Gibson Memorial had already won six features and was standing on top of the points.

When he dominated the Terry Gibson Fast 50 the night before, and set fast time for the 100, it seemed a foregone conclusion that he would secure his fifth win in a row.

It wasn’t to be though as Bob Gangwer surprised everyone when he passed leader Rob Warren with 30 laps to go and went on to win in emotional fashion.

Gangwer will look to become just the third driver with multiple Terry Gibson Memorial 100 wins this year.

CPR Hopeful for Hometown Win

There are several other drivers besides Gangwer that would cherish a Terry Gibson Memorial win. Of them all CPR Motorsports members “Steady” Steve Callahan of Cayuhoga Falls, OH, his son Joey, and his best friend and fellow May Motorsports crew member, Keith Powell rank the highest from a personal standpoint.

Growing up as supermodified fans at Sandusky Speedway and being a part of a real supermodified racing team, the CPR Motorsports guys all understand the relevance of the Gibson name to the track and supermodified racing in general.

Of the three, Steve has had the most success and the biggest heartbreak in this race.

He has been off of the podium just once, (4th last year), in the last four events finishes means that Callahan knows how to get around the semi-banked Sandusky paperclip.

For three years in a row, (2013-2015), it looked like Callahan had a lock on the top step of the podium only to have his hopes dashed in the closing stages of each race to come home in second place.

Callahan has rarely been out of the top 10 finishing positions of this race, so this could be the year he turns his heartbreak into happiness at the end of 100 laps.

Powell has not run as well as his friend in this race, but has a good season going, only recently been knocked off the top of the championship point standings, while the youngest of the CPR bunch, Joey Callahan, could be the sleeper of all the contenders and if he can keep his resolve, may surprise everyone.

Warren Looks to Avenge 2016 Loss

Rob Warren of Pulaski, NY full well knows the frustration of being close to the win at the Terry Gibson Memorial 100, only to come up just shy of victory.

Last year in particular, “Rocket” Rob, looked to be assured of his first win in this race only to lose the lead after a scuffle with eventual winner Bob Gangwer 30 laps before the checkers. Warren lost the Fast 50 the night before in similar fashion when Ray Sand, Jr. made a power move low in turn two to take the win.

Warren is the current SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship XIII point leader and is will be looking for his third win in a row and sixth on the season overall.

Three times since 2012 the driver of the 1st to Finish Race Servers machine has crossed the line in third place and finished the aforementioned 2016 race in second. His worst finish is thirteenth in 2011 and he’ll be looking to avenge his loss last year.

So Many Contenders

While the previous drivers have all either had success in the race already or could be considered favorites to win, there is a whole bunch of other SUPRS racers that should not be counted out.

Kevin Timmins, Dave Brigandi, and Joe Achzet will be joined by fellow New Yorker’s Chad Phelps, Derrick Backus and Kyle Clark, while Michigander Carl Becker looks to be the only other Midwesterner hoping for a good run.

SUPRS Icings on Top Rookie of the Year contender Nelson Rodrigues of Stoneham, MA will make his first NASCAR Heat start and has shown steady progress since his first SUPRS start in November including winning the Canadian Pursuit last week at Mosport.

Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby Always Wild and Wacky

Share SUPRS:

Mosport Speedway New Venue for Unpredictable Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby

January 2, 2017 – Goshen, IN…After a two-week Christmas and New Year holiday break, the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), warm things up for the first time of the new year with the 13th Annual Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby and Can-Am Challenge on January 3, 2017, and for the first time the zany race will be held at Mosport Speedway.

SUPRS 2017 Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby poster by BreezeGraphics.com

You won’t go crazy promoting your event when BreezeGraphics.com helps with the graphics!

When the racers  fire up their online sim supermodifieds for the first time of 2017, they will face a format that is completely unpredictable and always provides a rousing good time north of the border.

The competitors will not only be racing against each other but they’ll be paired up into two-man teams where the slowest matches up with the fastest from time trials. Each member of the team will work throughout the night to gain the most points possible as they try to win the overall Snowball Derby Challenge Championship.

The unpredictability of the night is increased this year because this will be the first time the Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby has been run anywhere other than Cayuga Speedway, and only the second time SUPRS has visited Mosport Speedway built by NegB Track Designs.

Time Trials, Canadian Pursuit, Heats, and a 50 lap feature will keep the racers busy all night long on a track that is anything but easy.

As they race for the extra Gold Crest Division Season Championship points that come from being on the winning Snowball Derby Championship team, they’ll have to keep their tires under them on Mosport’s very abrasive surface while they stay mindful of the very tricky turn four with its increasing radius and the big bad concrete wall that comes up quickly as they head onto the long front-stretch.

First Time Snowball Derby Winner Very Likely

It’s very unlikely that fans will see either of the two drivers that have dominated the winners circle at the Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby this year, so there’s a great chance there will be a first time winner of the event.

With four Snowball Derby wins to his name, Ray “The Sandman” Sand, Jr., made a name for himself in this race and last year came from over a second behind to claim his fourth win and third Challenge Championship, while Myles Maxon of Oswego, NY has two Snowball Derby wins and has been on the Snowball Derby Challenge Championship winning team twice.

But with neither of those outstanding SUPRS racers and champions seen on the track this year, and the only other multi-time winner, John Davidson, (2005, 2011), not active, there is but one conclusion, a new winner will come from a deep field of talent, with a few drivers really standing out as potential victors.

Keep Your Eye on These Guys

Of the current top five in the SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship standings, none have won this special event, although several have a lot of experience competing for the Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby Challenge Championship.

Like the last several years, Rob Warren is in the midst of an intense battle for the lead of the Gold Crest Wing Championship and of the drivers in the top three in the points standings, has the most Snowball Derby experience. Coming into this year’s race he has the most wins of the season at four.

Warren ran his first Derby in 2008 and has missed just one since then, (in 2011). His worst finish is 16th. He has a 12th, (2010), a third place, (2016), three sixth place finishes (2012, 2013, 2015) and was a part of the Snowball Derby Challenge winning team in 2013.

Keith Powell is just four points behind Warren going into this race, but has run the Snowball Derby just twice with his best finish of fourth coming the first time he raced it in 2011.

While entered to run the Snowball Derby this year, Powell’s name hasn’t been seen north of the border for this race since 2012 when he finished fifth.

Meanwhile, Joe Achzet’s  first run was in 2009 and he finished tenth. He ran the race for the next three years in a row with his best showing the last time he raced the Snowball Derby in 2012.

He finished a close second to winner Sean Gibbs in that race. He crossed the finish line in eleventh in 2010 and fifth in 2011.

Experience Counts

While Powell, Warren and Achzet battle at the top of the point standings, they will need to keep a close watch on the drivers sitting in fourth and fifth overall because both have more experience racing the Snowball Derby.

Steve Callahan has had an up and down season with just one win, but is tenaciously hanging onto fifth place in points.

Callahan’s name is nearly synonymous with starts in the Snowball Derby and has finished no lower than sixth place since 2010.

He was a model of consistency at Cayuga while living up to his “Steady Steve” nickname, making every race but one,(2016), at Cayuga Speedway since becoming a member and placing no lower than 15th place since his first Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby run in 2006.

Missing only one race since the first one in 2005 and the driver with more Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby starts than any other is Bob Gangwer.

Though he’s never won the race, Gangwer does have the distinction of being on the Snowball Derby Championship Team the most often. Gangwer joined with Jim Davidson,(2006), Dan Brigandi, (2007), Jamie Hartley, (2010), and Ed Riley, (2011), for a total of four Snowball Derby Championships.

Don’t Miss The Craziness

The SUPRS  13th Annual Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby and Can-Am Challenge takes place on January 3, 2017  at Mosport Speedway beginning with practice which starts at 8:00pm. Time Trials will follow at 8:15pm and Racing gets underway at 9:00pm with the  Canadian Pursuit. Heats and the 50 lap feature will follow.

SUPRS fans and friends can follow all the Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby action with timing, scoring and instant track telemetry via the SUPRS LIVE! page.

Learn more about this race on the SUPRS schedule page.  Regular season updates as well as real supermodified and sim racing news are popular features on the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series Facebook page and @SUPRSOnline.
