Three Nights, Five Tracks, One Champion, North Carolina Swing Toughest on Schedule

November 1, 2015 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 12th Annual North Carolina Swing is rightfully considered the toughest multi-race swing on the schedule.

The three-night extravaganza of supermodified sim racing features five different tracks in three nights of racing all based in North Carolina. As the racers vie for the coveted North Carolina Swing Championship Crown they will also be racing for points in the Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship.

The series kicks off Tuesday, November 3rd at Dasera Speedway and Caraway Speedway, moves to Concord Motorsports Park and Coastal Plains Speedway the next night and finishes off  at Hickory Motor Speedway on Thursday, November 5th where the winner of challenging “Hickory Hustle 75″ will be crowned North Carolina Swing Champion.

To date, there has been just one driver to win the North Carolina Swing Championship more than once. “Mighty” Myles Maxon. He first did it back to back in 2009 and 2010. Last year Maxon was on a hot-streak with his Tamarack Golf Club. “Swamp Monster” having won three of the first four races of the season.

Without winning a race during the Swing, he battled his way through the pack to take the lead from 2012 NC Swing Champion Carl Becker on lap 38, and then went on to win the Hickory Hustle and claim his third North Carolina Swing Championship.

The most recent winner on the SUPRS trail, Rob Warren, has swept the second night of the Swing for the last two years and will be just as much of a threat to win the overall championship again this year.

Steve Callahan has one of the best finishing records in the history of The Hickory Hustle, yet has never been able to win the race or the North Carolina Swing Championship. He had another great run last year and his third place finish was not indicative of the incredible race he ran.

With 20 bonus points on the line to the driver that can pull off this challenging feat, the SUPRS stars will be out in full force vying for an invitation to the Hickory Hustle.

The Hickory Hustle takes the top eight in points after the first four races and pits them against each other with a random start at Hickory Motor Speedway. It’s just one more reason the North Carolina Swing crown is one of the most sought after, and hardest to win, for the SUPRS drivers.

The opening salvo of the SUPRS 2015-16 Gold Crest Championship was fired last week during the Harvest of Speed opener, and like he’s done so many times before at LaPorte Speedway, Ray Sand, Jr. hit a bulls-eye by taking the win.

Sand, Jr. attempt to become the first driver in SUPRS 12 year history to win the first two races of the season in a row.  Sand is one of four two-time winners of this race and has a shot at becoming the first three-time winner as well.

Steve Callahan, the 2006 winner of the Black Kat Klassic, came out of the gates strong, leading most of the season opener at LaPorte last week and comes into race two of the season second in points with some ground to make up on points leader Sand, Jr.

The SUPRS racers will take on the challenges of Decatur Speedway October 27, 2015 beginning with practice which starts at 8:00pm. Time Trials will follow at 8:30pm and Racing gets under way with a special Crack the Whip race for the Fast Four qualifiers at 9:00pm.

Harvest of Speed at LaPorte Speedway Separates the Wheat from the Chaff

This will mark the twelfth time the original online sim supermodified league has started their season at this fictional tight 3/8th  track located in Northern Indiana and in that time only five different drivers have been able to drive their way to victory lane.

Defending SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Champion, Myles Maxon, tops the win list for this race. Maxon’s four Harvest of Speed victories at LaPorte make up the bulk of his seven total wins here . Three of those wins came in a row from 2007-2009. Only John Davidson has more total wins at this track having chalked up an incredible run of eight straight checkered flags from February 2005 to April 2006, with one of those being the 2005 Harvest of Speed.

Ray Sand, Jr., who is no slouch at LaPorte either, has five feature wins including the 2011 and 2013 Harvest of Speed races.

Sean O’Kane (2006), Gary Waldron (2010), and Chris Meyers (2012) are the only other drivers to have won the Harvest of Speed. Steve Callahan, Jim Crannell, Josh Crannell, Doug Heveron, and Jesse Kennedy have also etched their names into the SUPRS record book as one-time LaPorte Speedway race winners, although none of them brought in the Harvest.

This year’s Harvest of Speed will again be a part of the Indyana Supermod Challenge. With all the marks in the win column at LaPorte Speedway it should come as no surprise that Maxon and Sand, Jr. also have the most Indyana Supermod Challenge Championships with Maxon having six and Sand, Jr. three.

The overall Indyana Supermod Challenge Champion will be awarded 10 SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship points and receive a five-pound bag of  Yoder’s award-winning Indiana popcorn.

Practice begins at 8:00pm, with the Drivers Meeting taking place at 8:15. Time Trials follow at 8:30pm and racing is set to start at 9:00pm.
