Independence Day Twins a Tradition with SUPRS

June 30, 2014 – Goshen, IN…When it comes to the oldest event on the Supermodified Pavement Racing Series Gold Crest Non-Wing Championship calendar, nothing can hold a firecracker to the storied and exciting Independence Day Twins.

The very first points race for the SUPRS Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Championship came on July 6, 2005 with the running of the Independence Day Twin 25s at Jennerstown Speedway. Those races were won by 2006 Gold Crest Non-Wing Champion John Davidson and Canadian Sean Gibbs.

Since then, the event has been held at Jennerstown Speedway two other times. Beginning in 2008 the race moved to the newly designed Oswego Speedway and has been held there since except for 2011 when it was run at Bristol Motor Speedway and 2012 when the event was not held.

In the history of the race, no driver has more wins than 2-time Gold Crest Non-Wing Champion Kris Heveron. Heveron won at least one of the Twin features starting in 2006 and tallied an impressive two year run of four total wins.

Other winners include Gary Waldron (2006), Larry Russell (2008), Dave Biro III and Dave Soja (2011), and Domenic Gioia and Steve Callahan (2013). Data for the 2009 and 2010 seasons are currently unavailable.

This year’s Twin 35s return to Oswego Speedway on July 1 and will again feature a unique and interesting format based on the points won handicap system. As has been the long-standing tradition of the The Independence Day Twins, a SUPRSCharger award and SUPRSChallenge bonus award available for each 35 lap feature.

This event has always been an important one for the SUPRS racers because of the points available and fans can bet that this edition will be no different.

Current Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Championship point leader Myles Maxon won the first two races of the year and was on his way to a third last week when his computer screen minimized leaving him blind on the track. He took a big hit in the points and the winner of the race that Maxon lost, Rob Warren, now sits just 25 points out of first. Three time and defending Gold Crest Non-Wing Champion Ray Sand, Jr. has yet to score a win in 2014, and although tied with Warren in points total, is in third overall due to Warren having a win.

The SUPRS 10th Anniversary season continues on July 1 with the running of the  Independence Day Twin 35s at Oswego Speedway. Practice starts at 8:30 pm with the green flag dropping for racing action at 9:00 pm.

Tom Heveron Sr. Passing

Share SUPRS:

The entire Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series family wishes to send it’s most heartfelt and deepest condolences to Tom, Doug, Kris and the entire Heveron family on the passing of family patriarch Tom Heveron Sr.

Tom was a founding member of the International Supermodified Association and staunch supporter of ISMA, Oswego Speedway and all supermodified racing. Tom Jr., Doug and Kris all have raced and won with SUPRS and have been long-time supporters both financially and morally to this online racing league.

While we can never express fully the depth of our sympathy, we hope that the family will accept this small note from the SUPRS family as a sign of our appreciation for all that Tom meant to supermodified racing and a reminder to all of our members how much the Heverons have done for this league.

When we learn more about services we will pass them along.
