Rob Warren Wins Caution Plagued Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby

Bowmanville, Ontario, CAN – January 3, 2017…In a race that saw the caution flag waved as much as the green silk flew, Rob Warren of Pulaski, NY outlasted his fellow  Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), competitors to claim the 13^th Annual Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby Tuesday night at Mosport Speedway. Disturbed Motorsports Teammates Derrick Backus and Kyle Clark were second and third.

Warren  and Dave Brigandi teamed up to snag The Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby Team Challenge which consists of two-man teams that battle not only for personal success during the night, but work to gain team points for the overall team challenge bonus.

The two-man combo of Warren/Brigandi used their Snowball Derby Challenge score of 127 points to narrowly earn the 10 bonus points over Bob Gangwer and Steve Callahan who were second with 120. It was the third time overall that both Brigandi and Warren have been on the winning team

Team USA was once again crowned Can-Am Challenge Champions after no Canadian racers made the race.

After starting in ninth place and then methodically and carefully weaving his way through a maze of spinning cars, Warren inherited the lead from rival Joe Achzet 11 laps from the end, when Achzet darted to the pits fearful of running out of fuel due to the amount of cautions.

Achzet was able to come back up to fifth, even after making a second stop to top off the fuel again due to several drivers being shown the black flag and told to pull to the pits for spinning out too many times.

The night kicked off with time trials where Rob Warren set a new all-time track record of 15.729 seconds. Heat races were won by Kyle Clark and Joe Achzet, while rookie Nelson Rodrigues picked up is first ever SUPRS checkered flag when he beat Achzet to the line in a wild finish to the six lap Canadian Pursuit.

Next week SUPRS will remember a supermodified racer that lost his life while racing a supermodified. The 9^th Annual Terry Gibson Memorial gets underway Tuesday, January 10 with the Fast 50 at Sandusky Speedway. Then on Wednesday the prestigious Terry Gibson Memorial 100 takes place with the winner becoming a guaranteed starter for the 13^th Annual Summit Classic 125. Practice starts at 8pm both nights.
