Bracket Hill, NH – 12/17/2013…Gary Waldron of Wyoming, MI scored his first win of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series 10th Anniversary Season Tuesday night in the 10th Annual Christmas Special at Bracket Hill Raceway*, picking up a Burgers’ Smokehouse ham for his accomplishment.

Waldron has been a regular competitor with the SUPRS league almost since it’s inception in 2004, but had been locked out of victory lane for over a year. After winning the 8 lap “Reindeer” Dash, he took off from his feature starting pole position and led the entire 25 lap distance beating podium finishers Carl Becker and Ray Sand, Jr. to the finish line by several car lengths.

After being congratulated by his fellow SUPRS members, Waldron stated from Victory Lane, “I think I got lucky tonight and had one handed to me because I sure made a lot of mistakes out there.”

While he made have made a few mistakes during the race, Waldron was quick to acknowledge how enjoyable it was to finally get back to Victory Lane stating, “There have been a few nights where I thought I had one in the bag and either screwed up or something happened to keep me from getting the win, so yeah, this really means a lot to me because it’s been a long time coming.”

Gary Waldron(10) has the victory in site as Becker(42), Sand, Jr.(18) and Warren(35) claw their way to an exciting finish.

Waldron’s teammate, and second place finisher Carl Becker, could only watch his friend and was never really a threat to win although, at times, thought he may have had a chance. “I saw him slide high quite a few times and I thought ‘If he keeps that up, I can get him’,” explained the racer who already has three wins this season. “Trouble is, every time Gary would screw up, so would I and any advantage I had, flew right out the window, plus I had Robby and Ray back there trying to get by me.”

Becker has maintained his top five points standing all season long and while unable to notch another win on this night, was happy to see his friend and teammate finally pull down a win. He said, “I’m just glad to see Gary win finally, it’s been a long time and he deserves it, neither one of us did worth a hoot in time trials, but I guess we ran good when it mattered most and him winning and me second is a good way to go into the New Year.”

Current point leader Ray Sand, Jr. came home third after setting a new track record in time trials but was unavailable for comment after the race as he was off to the garage to work on his real race car. Rob Warren and Bob Gangwer completed the top five finishers.

The SUPRS racers will now take a two week break over the Christmas and New Year holidays allowing members to focus on spending time with their families, friends, and loved ones. They will return to action January 7, 2014 for the 10th Annual Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby and Can-Am Challenge at Cayuga Speedway.
