Dave Ohh Unfettered by Rash of Cautions and Crashes in Inaugural SUPRS Race at South Boston

June 23, 2020 – South Boston, VA…Cautions and crashes may have slowed him down some, but Dave Ohh of Union, CT, wasn’t about to be deterred from winning the inaugural, Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 45 lap feature event Tuesday night at South Boston Speedway. It was the first SUPRS Gold Crest Championship points event at the track, but it mattered little to Ohh as he led the entire race, and also won his qualifying heat. The victory was his fourth straight SUPRS feature win of the summer season.

Brad Keysor, for the second week in a row, pressured Ohh at the end of the race but had to settle for second as the only other car on the lead lap, while Rob Warren hung on for third. Bob Gangwer, (P4 one lap down), and Bobby HaydukR, (P5 three laps down), were the only other cars on the track after more than half of the starting field sat wrecked in the pits when the checkered fell.

Inherits Lead Early

As has been the case time and again this summer, Ohh was in the right place at the right time and inherited the lead when four of the top five starters were involved in a crash on lap one coming out of turn four. Ohh had just passed Rob Warren, who started to his left in fifth place, when teh caution came out after Michigan Hill Gang members, Carl Becker and Gary Waldron got together and spun in front of C.P.R. Motorsports members Keith Powell and Steve Callahan. It was a harbinger of things to come for those four, as they would all find themselves out of the race before the half-way mark.

None Spared

One by one, drivers dropped like flies under the hot Virginia sun. Most due to being involved in too many incidents and having the black flag waved at them as the SUPRS “three-spin” rule was invoked. Others weren’t so lucky to make it to three spins, and found themselves sitting on the track upside down and/or without wheels like Danny RayR, and Carl Becker. By the end of the night, not a single car was pristine and without some sort of damage, including the top three finishers.
