Dave Ohh Now Has Three Florida Speedweeks 2021 Wins in a Row, Joins Davidson, Sand, Jr. on Elite List

February 3, 2021 – Maitland, FL…Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh is enjoying his stay in the “Sunshine State” and racked up his third win of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Florida Speedweeks 2021 on Wednesday within the tight 1/3 mile confines of Dodge Raceway Stadium. It was the second year in a row that Ohh bagged the win at the unique racetrack and he has now joined SUPRS Gold Crest Champions John Davidson and Ray Sand, Jr. on the elite list of drivers that have won three SUPRS Florida Speedweeks races in the same year.

“Racey” Ryan Cloonan, the sensational rookie talent from Oswego, NY, made his way back to second place after leading early and spinning out on lap 26, while Rob Warren finished third after a spirited battle with Derrick Backus and another rookie, Steven Vincent.

Hectic Night for Ohh

Unlike his win last year here in Maitland where Ohh came from the back on three seperate occasions to claim with win, he never dropped below his eighth starting place. That doesn’t mean it was an easy night though. “It was hectic and hard to build a rhythm,” Ohh said. “I had a few laps where I felt kind of safe and comfortable, but it was another tight bullring and I just had to keep the car clean.”

“The corners here are blind and tight, and lapped traffic is tough. There was a couple of times I came around a corner and there were a group of cars sitting sideways,” related the TMS Wolfpack driver. “But it’s always nice to win. Three down, two more to go!”

Ohh gave credit to the driver he passed for the lead saying, “Ryan had a nice car too, it’s too bad he had that incident, but he made a nice recovery.”

Cloonan Charges Back to Front

After getting a great jump on three-time Dodge Raceway Stadium winner Nelson Rodrigues, it looked like Ryan Cloonan might join Rodrigues as a driver that got his first SUPRS feature win at Dodge. The Simability sponsored racer opened up his lead for the first five laps until the caution flew for Carl Becker who spun out in turn three.

Cloonan held off Brad Keysor and Dave Ohh on another restart until Keysor slid sideways and dropped out of the picture, leaving Dave Ohh a clear view of the back end of the #13. Ohh got by Cloonan for the lead on lap 14 but Cloonan continued to hang tough until losing it on his own coming out of turn two at the half-way point of the 50 lap race.

Taking advantage of several more cautions, including a major incident involving Keith Powell, Nelson Rodrigues, and fellow rookie, Steven Vincent, (who were all running fourth through sixth), Cloonan was able to pick off car after car including defending Speedweeks Champion Rob Warren and the hard charging Derrick Backus, until he was back in second place where he stayed until the end of the race.

Speedweeks Points Update

Dave Ohh now has a commanding lead in the SUPRS Florida Speedweeks point standings with 40 markers over defending Speedweeks Champion Rob Warren. Ryan Cloonan is close behind Warren, just 10 points back in fact, and with two races left there’s still plenty of time for Warren or Cloonan to wrestle the Speedweeks Championship away from Ohh.

Good Old USA

The fourth of five nights of SUPRS Florida Speedweeks 2021 takes place at USA International Speedway Thursday, February 4 with a 25 lap feature that starts at 9:05pm.

Like Black Creek on Tuesday night, USA International Speedway holds the distinction of having hosted a SUPRS Florida Speedweeks event every year that the series has been run.

Last year, Keith Powell turned his Speedweeks fortunes around when he won the green to checkered 25 lap feature that took just a tick over 6 minutes and 29 seconds to complete. It was Powell’s second career win at USA as he inched closer to the all-time winner Ray Sand, Jr. who has three. In all there have been nine different winners in the 13 times that SUPRS has raced on the big, banked 3/4 mile in Lakeland, FL.
