Dodge Domination for Ohh on Third Night of Speedweeks

Dave Ohh Dominates Competition at Dodge Raceway Stadium on Third Night of SUPRS Florida Speedweeks 2024

February 7, 2024 – Maitland, FL…Another year, another Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), race at Dodge Raceway Stadium, and another win by Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh as he claimed his fifth consecutive victory at the tight 1/3 mile in Maitland on Wednesday. He now has 15 career Speedweeks wins and two for the week while also laying claim to the new 50 lap record for Dodge.

Ohh dominated the race by lapping the entire field, leading the most laps, and setting the fastest lap of the race in a 50 lap stadium stomp that had just one caution and was completed in 11 minutes and 29.911 seconds.

Zach Sears and Brad Keysor put on a show for most of race with Sears getting the better of Keysor, and passing him for second with five laps to go. Keysor was on the podium again this week after winning at DeSoto on the opening night of SUPRS Florida Speedweeks 2024, marking the fifth time in his career he’s finished in the top three at Dodge.

Had to Get the Gap

“I was running hard to get the gap,” said the winner. “It was tough tonight, there was a lot more throttle jockeying than before, just less grip over the bumps. I just wanted to keep the car smooth and survive.”

Like he’s had to do nearly every time he’s won at Dodge Raceway Stadium, Ohh started at the back of the inversion for the feature. Lining up on the grid in eighth, he was up sixth by the time the yellow flag flew for the lone caution of the race on lap two. He then on the restart he was fifth, moved to fourth a lap later and picked off a car per lap until he was second by lap six. He made short work of then leader, Brad Keysor and grabbed the lead for good on the thirteenth go-round. Then he took off and hid lapping second place with just a little over five laps to go.

Lapped Traffic No Problem

With the cars jumping around as much as they do at Dodge, the leaders always have a little trouble getting through lapped traffic unscathed. Not Ohh though. “There was no trouble with lapped traffic,” he said. “I have to apologize to Anthony though so sorry for getting into him.”

Stating the Obvious

It’s clear after five straight years of finishing first, that Dave Ohh has taken a liking to Dodge Raceway Stadium. “I like the track,” he admitted. He then went on to list the things he likes about the little speedplant. “The bump off two, different grooves, you can roll the top, run the bottom, or if you’re really brave, you can throw it in and slide job someone. There’s just a lot of possibilities here.”

Speedweeks Highlights

One Caution Happened, One Should Have

Just one caution slowed the race and that came on lap 2 when Ryan Cloonan spun. Gary Waldron had no place to go and made contact with the #13 Simibility.com sponsored machine of Cloonan. The damage was minor and both were able to continue on and ended up finishing the race.

The one caution that should have happened but didn’t was a few laps later around lap five. Second year driver Daniel Nans got wide down the backstretch, and like has happened every year since SUPRS has run at Dodge, the yellow sand barrel at pit in doesn’t move when a right rear tire hits it. Nans clobbered the barrel and the end of the wall with his right rear and snapped around. As his wheels and most of the other removable parts of his supermodified parted ways with the chassis, Bobby Hayduk had little choice but to close his eyes cut hard left and hope for the best.

The best didn’t come, and Hayduk clipped Nans who was now just along for the ride. Parts were strewn across the track, and had this been a real supermodified race, the red flag would have been thrown and both drivers, if able, would have exited their cars and promptly changed their fireproof underwear thankful to be alive. But, this is sim racing and with the click of a keyboard button, both cars disappeared along with all the pieces and parts, the track was clear and the race stayed green.

Sears Sets New Track Record

The only thing Dave Ohh didn’t do at Dodge was set fast time and had to settle for second quick after Zach Sears broke Brad Keysor’s two-year old track record when he stopped the clocks with a blazing 10.677 second lap. Ohh had some satisfaction though, as he was the only other driver to go faster than Keysor’s old record and cranked off a lap of 10.688 seconds. Anthony Corsoniti continued a good run of qualifying during Speedweeks and clocked in at third with an 11.079.

“Rapid” Ryan Cloonan also ripped off an 11 flat and was just a tick slower than Corsoniti with his 11.082 best time. Keysor could do no better than fifth with an 11.382.

Former Speedweeks champ Keith Powell, (11.419), Bob Gangwer, (11.632), and Danny Ray, (11.691), filled out the Elite 8 and were locked into the inversion. Once the pill draw was done, Powell and Ray ended up on the front row.

Speedweeks Points Update

After starting the night in a three-way tie with Brad Keysor and Bob Gangwer in the SUPRS Florida Speedweeks 2024 points chase, Zach Sears has now moved to the top of the list and has a scant five point lead over Keysor. Gangwer hangs on to third 20 points behind Keysor.

For the second year in a row, Anthony Corsoniti has been a model of consistency and is not out of the chase for the Speedweeks crown yet sitting just 40 points out of the top spot.

With the win, Dave Ohh is now tied for fifth in the SUPRS Florida Speedweeks point standings with Ryan Cloonan.

Ohh and Keysor are the only drivers in the top five that have won a SUPRS Florida Speedweeks Championship.

Born in the USA

The next track on SUPRS Florida Speedweeks 2024 was born in the USA and is aptly named USA International Speedway. They’ll roll into Lakeland for a 25 lap feature on Thursday for the fourth of five nights of SUPRS Florida Speedweeks 2024, and the second of two races on a 3/4 mile speedway.

Just like Black Creek Raceway where Dave Ohh won on Tuesday, USA International Speedway holds the distinction of having hosted a SUPRS Florida Speedweeks event every year that the swing through the “Sunshine State” has been run.

Last year Brad Keysor tied his fellow former SUPRS and Speedweek Champion Ray Sand, Jr. for the most career feature wins at USA with three. Likewise, his three wins all came in consecutive years just like “The Sandman.” Two-Time SUPRS Florida Speedweeks Champion and 2018 Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Champion, Keith Powell is a two-time winner at USA and will look to join Sand, Jr. and Keysor in the three-time winner’s club.

SUPRS Co-Founder, John Davidson, is the only other driver out of the ten different drivers to have a victory at USA, to have one more than once there.

With all that being said, Keysor is the odd’s on favorite for taking his fourth win after adding a new track record the last two years in a row to add to his domination in the win column the last three.
