Keith Powell Wins Career First Randy Witkum Memorial 125, Dave Ohh Takes Keystone Championship on Tie-Breaker
March 5, 2020 – Jennerstown, PA… Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), veteran, Keith Powell of Carrolton, OH, won his first Randy Witkum Memorial 125 Tuesday night at Jennerstown Speedway. The 125 lap race put a wrap on SUPRS 15th Annual Keystone Nationals and Dave Ohh won his first Keystone Nationals Championship on a tie-breaker with Rob Warren.
Three-time Witkum winner Bob Gangwer hounded Powell for the length of the race and finished less than a half second behind the winner, while Ohh struggled with worn out tires and a damaged nose wing to finish third in the grueling supermodified sim race.
Powell Finally Puts One Together
“It’s awesome. It’s been one of those races where I could just never put it together,” explained Powell. “I always struggled at this race, but I finally just put a good race together and I’m super stoked to get on the list of memorial race winners and super happy I could put my name on that list with them.”
Powell was full of gratitude as he had a hard time finding his words after the win. “I gotta thank SUPRS for putting this on,” he said. “Also 1st to Finish, Hairbag Studios, BreezeGraphics.com. There’s so may things rattling through my head, it’s hard to get my thoughts together. To win the Randy Witkum Memorial is really special.”
Ohh Wins First Keystone Nationals Championship
Going into the night, it looked like Rob Warren was on his way to a fifth Keystone Nationals Championship. With a five point lead on Dave Ohh, and having four previous wins in the Randy Witkum Memorial, Warren seemed like a sure bet. But by the end of the night, and after double checking, Dave Ohh was declared the 2020 Keystone Nationals Champion. Warren’s undoing? For the first time in as long as anyone could remember, Warren failed to win at least one feature duing the PA swing while Ohh did just that on Wednesday at Nazareth.
With both drivers battling each other throughout the 125 lap race, their third and fourth place finishes put them in a tie with 215 points. Ohh’s win at Nazareth became his ace in hand, and the tie-breaker, that gave him the 10 bonus points to go with his Keystone crown.
Keystone Nationals Support Shown
Rob Warren, Bob Gangwer, Keith Powell, Carl Becker, Brad Keysor, Zach Sears, and Dave Ohh had perfect attendance for the Keystone Nationals. Nine drivers total competed in at least one of the three races.
Because of his win, Powell joins Steve Callahan and Rob Warren as a guaranteed starter for the season-ending 16th Annual Summit Classic 125 next month at Madera Speedway.
Headed for Hoosier State
The SUPRS racers leave Pennsylvania in their rear-view mirror and head west to the Hoosier state of Indiana for a wing/non-wing supermodified double header on March 10 at Indianapolis Raceway Park and the Indyana Supermod Challenge.
Everything gets rolling at 8:00pm with hot laps for the wing supermodifieds. Time Trials are at 8:30pm after the Driver’s Meeting and Racing action starting at 9:05pm.
