January 30, 2021 – Goshen, IN…Five fast nights of supermodified sim racing fun await the competitors of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), at the 2021 SUPRS Florida Speedweeks beginning Monday February 1 and running through Friday, February 5. The week-long trek through the Sunshine State visits five tracks in five nights with points adding up all week long while drivers aim for the SUPRS Florida Speedweeks crown.
Desoto Super Speedway Added to Schedule
The one change to SUPRS Florida Speedweeks for this year from the last four, is that SUPRS has dropped New Smyrna Speedway, and added Desoto Speedway in Bradenton, FL to kick off Speedweeks on February 1. This exciting development has nearly all of the SUPRS competitors looking forward to this date. “This is a multi-groove track that should give us a great race,” said SUPRS Lifetime Member Steve Callahan. “I’ll tell you what, this is going to be a darned good show,” exclaimed Carl Becker who is over 75 years old and has over 500 SUPRS starts.
The rest of the schedule for the week remains the same, and with all five tracks being unique and different from each other, fans and competitors alike should be able to find something that suits everyone’s taste. The variations of track sizes, banking, surface and two different sim racing platforms always makes for great racing and unpredictable finishes all week long.
Many to Make First Speedweeks
For many of the drivers from seven of the United States and Canada that are expected for the 2021 SUPRS Florida Speedweeks, they’ll be competing in their first Speedweeks, and at each track for the first time.
71 year old Danny Ray of Goshen, IN is one of those drivers. He isn’t planning on doing anything different than normal to get ready for SUPRS Florida Speedweeks, but he is concerned about equipment working all week long. “I figure if I can get my wheel fixed up a little better, I may do OK, but I’m having a lot of issues with it right now,” he explained. “The steering changes throughout a race and that’s why I just drop to the back. It makes it awful hard to be consistent, and I don’t want to screw anyone’s race up,” said the driver of the Smokie Bones’ Downhome Kitchen #08. Ray has very little sim racing experience prior to joining SUPRS in April of 2020, but rarely misses an opportunity to “have some fun with the guys” each week.
SUPRS 2020 Gold Crest Icings on Top Non-Wing Supermodified Rookie of the Year Erich Becker, is another driver that will make his first SUPRS Florida Speedweeks starts. Becker won’t be able to make all five nights of SUPRS Florida Speedweeks, however there is one track in particular that he’s eyeballing.
“I’m hoping to make two of the five, Monday and Friday, due to kids sports conflicts,” he said from his home in Shelby Township, MI. “But I’m most looking forward to 5 Flags, (on Friday). It’s a nice, wide, two groove track, so that should make for some fun passing and good speeds.”
Chisago City, MN racer Dick Schuler has two simple goals for SUPRS 2021 Florida Speedweeks: make the shows and finishes the races. “I would like to run all the nights and finish each race,” said the Gooby Beer sponsored racer. “I’m hoping for top ten finishes,” he added.
