Dave Ohh Overcomes Adversity to Win Fifth Straight Jeff Russell Special at The Bullring
April 4, 2023 – Las Vegas, NV…Overcoming a near disastrous incident on lap 33 while leading, Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh went for broke and won his fifth straight Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Jeff Russell Special Tuesday night at The Bullring. Ohh took the lead at the start, nearly crashed out of the race, dropped to the back, then charged his way back to the front, in his damaged TMS Wolfpack “Black Beauty” roadster. He reclaimed the lead from Brad Keysor with 16 laps to go and went on for the win. Keysor, who won the BMK Logistics Fast Car Dash, was the only other driver on the lead lap and finished second to Ohh for the second year in a row.
Like last year, Ryan Cloonan was on the podium in third place driving the Simibility #13, one lap down to the top two in what was the largest starting field in the history of the race, and matched Cloonan’s racing number at 13.
Fifth Win Almost Didn’t Happen
Ohh’s end of wins at The Bullring nearly happened when he collided with a spinning Jon Kreuzer. Kreuzer was making his first SUPRS feature start and lost control of the Army Surplus Special after hitting the front stretch wall. Ohh’s good fortune held true once again, and even though the car sustained a fair amount of damage, he was able to stay on the track. For Kreuzer, it was the end of his first night of SUPRS racing, but showed good promise after being thrown to the card sharks of Vegas and one of the trickiest tracks on the schedule.
Ohh certainly had his hands full trying to charge up through the field of the 11 remaining cars. “I had to change my style,” he said. “I really had to attack and I beat it up pretty bad to get back to the front.”
“Thanks to The Mod Squad, Icings on Top, 1st to Finish Race Servers, BreezeGraphics.com, and HeatFinder,” said Ohh. “Of course a shout out to Jeff and his family as he continues to heal.”
Donations Help Jeff Russell
The SUPRS Jeff Russell Special was run to raise awareness and donations to help offset continued medical costs for the race’s namesake. Jeff Russell has endured four different brain surgeries, multiple surgeries on his arm and eye, and has undergone intensive physical and occupational therapy. Jeff continues to struggle with being able to speak due to the Traumatic Brain Injury he suffered in the crash, but through the financial help of many in the racing community, and the sheer tenacity of Jeff, the speech therapy has continued to help Jeff express himself better.
Fans and friends are encouraged to make a cash donation to the Jeff Russell Benefit Fund and mail their check or money order to:

Donations are also being accepted to the Dion Parish Memorial Benevolent Fund for Supermodifieds and received 4/3-4/10 will be sent to the Jeff Russell Road to Recovery Fund.

California Dreaming
There’s only a few races left on the wing supermodified schedule and now all focus is on doing some California dreaming. The final push to the championship starts next week when drivers head to Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, CA next week for the 19th Annual Billy Vukovich III Classic on Tuesday, April 11, 2022 where Bob Gangwer is the defending winner of the race.
Coming Up:
Practice gets going at 8:00pm for this prestigious race that celebrates the life of the late Billy Vukovich III who was a supermodified stand-out before becoming a Rookie of the Year at the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race and competing in a total of three “500s” before his untimely death in a sprint car in 1990.
The winner of this race becomes a guaranteed starter for SUPRS 19th Annual Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway on April 26.
This year’s show at the NASCAR Heat sim racing track is part of the SUPRS/HeatFinder.net Supermodified Challenge and open to anyone that has the track, the SUPRS modification, and has registered to race at SUPRS.net.
