Dave Ohh Charges from the Back Three Times to Grab Win on Night 3 of Florida Speedweeks at Dodge Raceway Stadium

February 5, 2020 – Maitland, FL…After putting on one of the most impressive runs ever seen within the tight 1/3 mile confines of Dodge Raceway Stadium, Dave Ohh came from the back to the front on three occasion to grab the feature win on Night 3 of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 2020 Florida Speedweeks. Rob Warren finished second and Brad Keysor was third.

Dave “Speedyman” Ohh came from the back not once, not twice, but THREE times to take the win on Night 3 of SUPRS 2020 Florida Speedweeks at Dodge Raceway Stadium. (Victory Lane Art by BreezeGraphics.com)

Go Where They’re Not

In victory lane, Ohh talked about the challenges of coming from the back three times to win. “There were a lot of quick cars out there again tonight, ” said the winner. “I had a few battles coming up there, I’m not sure what happened with scoring, but it all worked out alright.”

“It was a good race, I knew I had to go where they weren’t and I had the car rolling up top, but figured I had to go to the bottom if I wanted to pass Rob.”

Started at Tail

Ohh started at the tail of the field right next to the driver that he had chased to the front the night before, and like the race at Black Creek on Tuesday, he couldn’t get to the front as quickly as Rob Warren, who took the lead from Bob Gangwer on lap 12. But once he did, the Union, CT driver went right to work on the defending Speedweeks Champion, Warren.

Just as Ohh took the lead, the TMS Wolfpack “Black Beauty” roadster got loose out of turn two and went for a wild slide up across the track, nearly collecting Warren in the process. Before the slide was done, Ohh had spun all the way into the pits.

“I got a little aggressive there trying to pass Rob and I goosed it right over the hump,” explained Ohh. “It got loose, then hooked right and I just missed the barrel at the end of the pit wall, but then I did hit the inside wall in the pits.” With surprisingly little damage, and no injuries to the sim fans, Ohh wheeled back onto the track to take the rear of the field for the restart.

Second Verse Same as First

The race went back to green and Ohh made his second charge through the field and briefly nosed ahead of Warren again, but the caution came out for a wild crash by Keith Powell when the Ohio driver got a little wide on the backstretch where the right rear tire caught the end of the pit road entrance.

At that point, Ohh announced that he had a penalty, and it became apparent that it was because of his spin into the pits and his ensuing re-entrance to the track in front of the field under caution. The penalty was cleared and Ohh sent to the end of the running order.

Final Charge Nets Big Result

When the race went back to green just before the halfway point, Ohh wasted no time disposing of the cars standing in the way of his second Speedweeks win in a row. One by one, he lived up to his “Speedyman” name and sliced through the field to take the lead from Rob Warren with ten to go, then steadily pulled away to win by two and a half seconds.

Rodrigues Bows Out

After three straight years of seeing Nelson Rodrigues in victory lane, there was talk of renaming Dodge Raceway Stadium to “HotRod” Raceway. Suffering from a bout of sickness coming into the night, watching his track record broken by Dave Ohh wasn’t the elixir Rodrigues needed to take on the challenges of the tiny oval and bowed out for the night.

Becker Brings It Home, Sears Seals Top Five

For the first time in his career Carl Becker brought the Dowker Titanium Roadster home in one piece after a race at Dodge. The previous three installments of this event had ended with Becker’s #42 on the hook, the flatbed, or on it’s lid after hard crashes in the backstretch. For Becker it was a win just to finish.

Rookie Zach Sears also counted his finish high on the list of career accomplishments. Running as high as third place before a bad internet connection dropped him back in the field, Sears was able to recover to come home in fourth and also set the second quickest lap of the race in the process.
