Madera, CA – April 26, 2016… Bob Gangwer of Goshen, IN took the pole position for the second year in a row for in time trials for the 12th Annual Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS),  Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway with a time of 11.901 Tuesday evening.

Bob Gangwer and Rob Warren will bring the field to the green flag in tomorrow night’s 12th Annual Summit Classic 125 at Madera Speedway.

The driver of the Wing Side Up, RW Woodworking roadster was surprised by his time after struggling during practice.

“Going into tonight, I didn’t think I had a snowball’s chance in the Fresno sun to do this, so I’m wicked happy,” said Gangwer. “I was slow in practice and then I remembered a little trick on the second warmup lap that I used last year to get through turn three and four and once I stopped binding the car up I was OK, but that second lap was a little hairy when I was headed for the wall.”

Gangwer is looking to win his second Summit Classic 125 in a row and going away from inside the front row at Madera is a good start.

“I guess the old girl still has a little left in her, but we’ll have to see with Rob right next door on the start, and not knowing who will be behind me going into one,” he explained. “The opening couple of laps are critical here and you have to keep the car clean and not abuse it early because it falls off so much at the end.”

Rob Warren driving the 1st to Finish Race Servers, Designs of Elegance Hawk qualified second quick with a time of 11.947 and was happy with his run but surprised by Gangwer’s lap. “I feel great, I was startled by the lap put down by the pole sitter,” he began. “That was an amazing lap, congrats to Bob.”

“I saw what he was doing and I thought he was entering the corner a little high,” Warren explained. “I was wrong, I was the one entering the corner too low.”

Carl Becker turned in the third fastest lap of time trials in the Wholesale Diamond Exchange Dowker Titanium Roadster. The Lansing, MI veteran said, “I can turn those kind of laps but I’m not real consistent, when ya get down in those 11.9s that is a bit of a hard thing to do.” He added, “I have a theory about how I get there, but I knew that one was gonna be a good lap.”

The top three qualifiers were all in different chassis’ with Gangwer using a Scriba Turkey Buzzard (Graves), Warren a Hawk, Jr., and Becker an Allegresso.

Rick Walls and Jeff Bivens also took time while Ray Sand, Jr. had computer issues during practice and wasn’t able to qualify. Becker, Walls, and Bivens will line up for the heats based on time while Sand, Jr. and anyone else that pulls into the pits tomorrow will start the heats based on points handicap since they failed to attempt a time trial.

SUPRS Summit Classic Week will close with the 12th Annual Summit Classic 125 tomorrow night at Madera Speedway. The field will be filled by qualifying heat races. Action gets underway at 7:00pm with practice, followed by drivers meeting at 8:00pm, Heats at 8:15pm and last warm up session at 8:30pm. Driver introductions and pre-race festivities will lead up the to drop of the green flag for the 12th Annual Summit Classic 125 at 9:00pm
