Bob Gangwer Comes Through Chaos for Monday Madera Madness Win

Madera, CA – April 24, 2017…Bob Gangwer overcame a spin, several close calls, and a race riddled with cautions to claim first place in the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Monday Madera Madness at Madera Speedway.

The race was Gangwer’s fourth win of the season, and third at Madera in three years. “I dig this place,” the winner said. “But it was a rough night out there and I was just lucky to survive. Congrats to Keith and Rob on their finishes and I just want to say what a blast it was to race with Kyle Clark tonight. We must have run 10 laps or so side by side. I have a lot of respect for any driver that can do that, but especially at this place in these cars.”

In a race that nobody seemed to want to lead, Gangwer started on the pole, took the lead but immediately lost it when he spun on a restart after the caution flew on lap one. “That was just a dumb move on my part,” Gangwer stated. “I got on the hammer too hard and lost it. I’m just glad I didn’t ruin anyone else’s race.”

Keith Powell inherited the lead and held it for seven laps before he too spun out in the same turn four that claimed Gangwer. Powell ended up being hit while he sat backwards on the track, but was somehow able to continue.

Next up was Rob Warren, and he looked strong in the early going. However, he didn’t look so good sliding through the middle of turn one and two after just four laps in the lead. He ended his slide with a wild 360 and kept going but still the caution flag flew again.

All three of the drivers cycled through the field until Gangwer was back out front. He ended up leading a total of 29 laps to come home ahead of Powell and Warren.

Steve Callahan won the Fast Car Dash, while Rob Warren and Keith Powell claimed their heat race wins.

Supermodified sim racing action at Madera continues Tuesday with the 13th Annual Summit Classic 125 Time Trials. Only the two fastest time drivers will be locked into the starting line-up with everyone else having to run a qualifying heat race.

Action gets underway at 8:00pm with practice, followed by drivers meeting at 8:45pm. The drivers will shoot for the pole position of the 13th Annual Summit Classic 125 at 9:00pm.
