Citing too many conflicts and not enough time, Chris Nicastro has stepped down from the director of what was formerly known as the Outlaw Racing Series which features supermodifieds and races on the NASCAR heat format.
Nicastro has chosen long time Supermodified freelance photo/journalist Bob Gangwer to take over the helm of the newly renamed Supermodified Ultimate Racing Series or S.U.P.R.S. Gangwer along with the help of John Davidson of SupermodifiedScorecard.com fame will be working on a website that will bring the online racing series to the forefront of the sim racing world.
Citing a revamped schedule and points system, Gangwer had this to say about his new role, “I am hoping that we can bring this mod for the NASCAR Heat game to more real Supermodified fans so that they can experience just a little bit what it would be like to be racing against their heroes. I also think that this will help spread the gospel of supermodified racing to the general online racing participant in what is mainly a NASCAR or Dirt racing realm.”
“Chris didn’t really leave per say, as he will still be racing with us and stay on while I learn the ropes as far as technical issues go, but he has chosen to pursue other interests within the online auto racing sim community, and will continue to be the director of ORS,” continued Gangwer. The series features racing action at tracks that many Supermodified fans are familiar with already and have watched the winged warriors of ISMA, MSA, SRL and ERA compete at over the years in real life.
“There are other mods out there that are newer and graphics wise further developed and of a higher resolution and we will be looking at those, specifically Papyrus’ NASCAR 2003. For now though you can’t beat the selection of tracks for Heat. When I reset the schedule I made sure we were going to be racing at Jennerstown, Cayuga, Concord, IRP, and Mesa Marin because these are tracks that have traditionally hosted the real deal at one time or another and it should make the online experience just that much more realistic,” stated Gangwer.
The S.U.P.R.S. season continues this Sunday with a 38 lap race at Indianapolis Raceway Park and then will resume its normal Wednesday night events with The Christmas Special at Derry Speedway on 12/22.
