GDub Blasts to Buckley Win

Gary Waldron Leads Last Two Laps for SUPRS Buckley Speedway Win

January 18, 2006 – Buckley, CA…Gary Waldron of Wyoming, MI proved that the only lap that counts is the last one after blasting past Chris Meyers and Buddy Cottom to take the win in the 38 lap feature at Buckley Speedway.

“That was a pretty good race,” said Waldron. “The first 32 laps we raan 123 with Buddy and Chris and was just waiting for a mistake to happen and it did.” When Cottom and Meyers got together after Cottom made contact with a lapped car, Waldron was able to steer clear of the incident that took the leader out of play. “I’m not sure if Buddy got into Chris or Chris got into Buddy, but my wishful thinking came true and I got a run under them and took the spot.

I have to say that I don’t think the top three or four could have run any closer without bumping, we just ran a really clean race. I don’t think anyone had anything for anyone. Everyone was running great lines and were very fast so that made it hard to pass. There was nothing up top and unless someone moved up, here was nothing on the bottom either. It’s a fast place, I’ll take this one.”

Earlier in the night Fusion Custom Graphics co-owner Ian VanLuven stopped by to say a few words to the drivers. “It’s exciting to be involved with SUPRS,” he said. “Its a high caliber league and a cool deal to keep racing in your system during the off-season. We’re happy to help SUPRS and we hope that our involvement encourages more.” Fusion Custom graphics has been in business for six years and does full-body wraps and custom vinyl pinstriping. Much of their business is based at Oswego Speedway, but they also do a variety of other race cars including PA pavement modifieds, and sprint cars, plus commercial and fleet vehicles.

Fusion Custom Graphics will be back next week as the presenting sponsor of the Crazy Canuck Snowball Derby at Cayuga Speedway.

Real supermodified racer Joey, “The Jersey Jet” Payne set a track record with a 12.315 second lap, while Sean Gibbs won the Fast Car Dash for the “SUPRS Six” out of the heats. Buddy Cottom and Gary Waldron won their heats. Waldron also ran the fastest lap of the feature with a blistering 12.184 second lap.
