ISMA Returns to Former Cayuga Speedway for Queenston 50 at Jukasa Motor Speedway on July 14

July 6, 2018 – Liverpool, NY…From 1976 to 2009, the International Supermodified Association, (ISMA), headed north of the border to the Cayuga Speedway, near Cayuga, Ontario, sometimes 2 or 3 times a season, for a total of 27 events. And now, after many seasons of uncertainty about the tracks future, the anticipated rebirth has been completed and on July 14, ISMA ventures back to the site, which now is a modern miracle of a race track now known as Jukasa Motor Speedway.

Supermod Legends Abound

Many of supermodified racing’s most legendary pilots took the checkered flag first at the .625-mile oval (1 K) in those years. Names such as Bentley Warren, Gary Allbritain, Jim Winks, Warren Coniam, Eddie Bellinger, Steve Gioia Jr., and Doug Heveron etched their names into the Cayuga record books from 1976 to 1985.

90s Greats

After a 10-year hiatus, a new batch of ISMA hot shoes were arising and Scotty Martel, Dave McKnight, Joey Payne, Mike Ordway Sr and Russ Wood claimed victories from 1995 to 1998.

New Millennium Masters

Skipping to 2000, ISMA traveled to Cayuga twice or three times a year, with Joey Payne, Joe Gosek, McKnight, Ordway, and Wood finding their way to victory lane until 2002. The last three years of competition were a little separated by uncertainty of the racetrack. Chris Perley got his first win there in 2003. Nokie Fornoro drove home to a win in 2005 and Mark Sammut claimed the finale at the famed oval.

A look back at some of the memorable times at Cayuga, now Jukasa:

Great Memories

Many memories exist from those years, as Cayuga was a gathering place of competitors, fans and excitement. With a huge campground available, entertainment, even an airstrip, and racing all in one place, there was a camaraderie at the venue unequaled at the time. The closing of the speedway brought regret to those who had been there.

Revived Facility Looking Good

Photos of the revived race track, grandstands and pit areas, perhaps creates the most excitement with newly paved surfaces on the speedway and in the pits, a pit road, the best of lighting and so much more certainly makes the trip to Canada a must for all.

Part of Tammy Ten Bonus Fund

In addition the “Queenston 50” for the winged ISMA cars is also the second leg of a three-race Canadian bonus point fund, which includes both Delaware shows and the Jukasa event. This bonus will be awarded to the Top 5 Car Owners based on points earned at the 3 Canadian Races (Delaware 6/1/18 (won by Kyle Edwards), Jukasa 7/14/18, and Delaware 8/18/18) in 2018.

The total point fund bonus payout is an awesome $7,000 with the payout as follows: 1st – $3,000, 2nd – $1,500, 3rd – $1,000, 4th – $800, 5th – $700

This point fund bonus, named “The Harvey Lennox Memorial Tammy Ten Bonus Point Fund,” is sponsored by Arctic Equipment Manufacturing, Co (London, ON); Corr/Pak Merchandising (Richmond Hill, ON); Murrays Automatic Transmission Centre (London, ON); and Patco Transportation (Ayr, ON).

Open Wheel Fan’s Dream

The Race of Champions, (RoC) Modifieds join ISMA on July 14 card at Jukasa, and as stated by the track’s website, “This is one of our most anticipated races of 2018 with two incredible open wheel divisions that will be super fast and exciting. The ISMA supermodifieds have a rich history at the Jukasa site with a huge following joined by the ROC Modifieds and their fans.”
