August 13, 2023 – Goshen, IN…It’s time to go Topless with the non-wing supermodifieds of Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series 19th Annual Topless! 200 Week which begins August 13. The 200 lap race is modeled after the famed “International Classic 200” at Oswego Speedway.The SUPRS Topless! 200 is “The Original 200 Lap Supermodified Sim Race,” and some of the best supermodified sim racers in the country are ready to get on track at Oswego Speedway for this time honored tradition of closing out SUPRS summer season.
Test-N-Tune Kicks off the Week on Sunday
Everything kicks off August 13 with the SUPRS Sunday Night Test-N-Tune. The drivers will have a chance to put their wing and non-wing supermodifieds on the track to test their set ups while the SUPRS directors go through systems checks in preparation for Topless! 200 Week.
A full 200 lap fuel run is planned for the non-wing cars, while a 25 lap test takes place for the wing supermodifieds. It all begins at 7pm eastern.
SUPRSNationals on Monday
On Monday, the racers strap on the wing for the the SUPRSNationals Winged Supermodified 50, which is the last Empire State Super Series Regional Tour show of the season. This year the race will use the rFactor platform. Bob Gangwer was the surprising winner last year when Ryan Cloonan had bad luck while leading towards the end of the race.
The five-race 2022-23 ESS tour started in December at Route 20 Speedway where Dave Ohh led all 50 laps to take the win in the NASCAR Heat wing supermodified feature on “Blind Date Night.” Then in Januray, three-time and defending ESS Champion, Brad Keysor, won at Oswego Speedway when SUPRS visited there for the Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Mid-Season Championship 100.
With Keysor out of country for the next two ESS races held the first week of August on “The Moody Mile” at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, Ohh took full advantage and swept the night padding his ESS points lead substantially. Ohh who’s coming off of his recent win in The Whistler just a week ago, only has to start the SUPRSNationals and he’ll claim his first Empire State Super Series championship.
Drivers Going for the Pole on Tuesday
On Tuesday, all focus switches to going as fast as possible with the 19th Annual Topless! 200 Pole Night show. While everyone will have a shot at the pole position only the top two qualifiers will be locked into the 2023 Gold Crest Non-Wing Championship marquee event.
Dave Ohh, who has been on a tear in the final weeks of the SUPRS summer season holds the track record set last year for this race. In fact, starting with his first attempt in 2019, “SpeedyMan” has been broken the track record three times, started from the pole position three times, and has been on the front row every time he’s started the Topless! 200. This year he’ll do his best to break his own mark of 15.550 seconds.
The SUPRS Rising Star will precede the Topless! 200 time trials. This one of a kind event for non-wing supermodified sim racing is open only to invited SUPRS Members that have never won a feature event at Oswego Speedway in a non-wing supermodified. The drivers must have also made a starting attempt in at least three SUPRS non-wing supermodified features during their career. That race will be canceled if fewer than four of the eligible drivers do not RSVP that they intend to compete.
The high speed antics of SUPRS 19th Annual Topless! 200 Pole Night begins at 7:45pm with the Time Trial Qualifying Order Draw. Practice starts at 7:50pm for drivers eligible for the Rising Star. The Rising Star 50 green flag drops at 8:12pm with the run for the Topless! 200 pole to follow at 9:00pm eastern.
Topless! 200 Set for Wednesday
The SUPRS 19th Annual Topless! 200 is set for Wednesday, August 16, 2023. “The Original 200 Lap Supermodified Sim Race” is the last points show of SUPRS 19th consecutive year of sanctioning supermodified sim racing. 200 laps is a long way to go without a pit stop, and to win the prestigious race will take a lot of luck, great skill, and perfect strategy.
Last year Dave Ohh became the fifth driver in the history of the race to win it more than once after lapping the entire field on the way to his first Topless! 200 win over the second largest starting field in the history of the race.
The first practice session is at 7:00 pm for Topless! 200 “rookies, followed by qualified cars at 7:15pm. The track opens for everyone at 7:30pm.
Final Warmups are at 8:00pm after the Drivers Meeting. Pre-race festivities including interviews, season-end awards presentations, and National Anthem. Driver Introductions for “The Original 200 Lap Supermodified Sim Race” are at 8:22pm.
The green flag for the 19th Annual Topless! 200 is scheduled to drop over a a stout field of supermodified sim racers at 8:30pm.
Topless! 200 Last Race of 2023 of Triple Crown
Adding to the pressure of just finishing the big race, is the fact that it’s also the third and final race of the 2023 Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing presented by Icings on Top. To date, four drivers have won the Triple Crown which also includes the SUPRS All-Star 200, and the Summit Classic 125 for winged supermodifieds.
When Dave Ohh won the Summit Classic back in 2020, it gave him a win a in all three of the Triple Crown races, but it wasn’t until 2022 that he swept all three in the same year for the perfect Triple Crown. This year, Brad Keysor is on his way to doing what no other driver has, winning a SECOND Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing presented by Icings on Top. He’ll have his work cut out for him though because he’ll have to conquer the Topless! 200 for a record tying third time.
