Brad Keysor Wins Feature at USA International Speedway on Night 4 of SUPRS 2021 Florida Speedweeks

February 4, 2021 – Lakeland, FL…Brad Keysor of Liverpool, NY broke Dave Ohh’s Speedweeks win streak by barely beating him to the finish line first on the fourth night of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS) Florida Speedweeks 2021 Thursday at USA International Speedway. Keysor brought home the win in the 25 lap feature over Ohh who finished second pushing Keysor across the finish line in the nine minute, twelve seconds race. Ryan Cloonan ended up in third.

Keysor Glad to Shed Speedweeks Struggles

Even though he came out of the gate strong with a second place finish at Desoto on Monday night to kick off SUPRS Florida Speedweeks, Brad Keysor admitted that this year it’s been a struggle to find his groove in the “Sunshine State. “I’ve had a good car all week,” he said, “But it’s been a tough week, so it definitely feels good to get a win here tonight.”

“I’ve struggled in the past here before, but with the week I’ve had, and the history at this track, I’m happy to get a win here. It’s a nice track, it’s a fun track. Thanks to Hairbag Studios, BreezeGraphics.com, 1st to Finish Race Servers, and to Icings on Top for all the great awards and for sponsoring the Rookie of the Year Award.”

Plan of Attack

The Chasing Cameras sponsored driver had a plan going into the night, knowing that he had to make the Elite 8 then take advantage of the inversion if he were to have any hope at turning things around.

“Tonight, I looked at the starting line-up and I knew I had to take advantage of the handicapping,” he said. “I was able to start in front of some fast cars, I just didn’t know how that first corner was going to work out and knew the row behind me wasn’t going to wait.”

Watch just how close the finish at USA International Speedway was.

“Fortunately, I got around Keith on the restart. He had made a change to the car right before the feature and he was struggling through the corners. But then I knew the 11, (Dave Ohh), was on the same set-up as me and I knew the draft was going to be key,” he said. “I really caught a couple very, very fortunate breaks when I came up on a lapped car and we weren’t really sure where they were going to go, and I’m not sure they knew where they were going to go. Fortunately Dave wasn’t ready to go.”

Lone Caution Eliminates Two Contenders

The only caution of the race came on lap four when former SUPRS Icings on Top Rookie of the Year, Nelson Rodrigues got loose and collected rookie Steven Vincent. Vincent who had started on the pole, had a hard hit into the opening of the wall entering three and did some major damage to his Creative Assistant #28. Vincent tried to restart, but the car was an evil mess and he pulled off the track. Rodrigues spun wildly and after contact ripped the nose wing off the Star Speedway sponsored roadster and was done for the night.

Becker Close to a Top Five, Hayduk, Schuler in Top Ten

Carl “Bonzai” Becker proved once again that he’s not as washed up as many of the younger drivers might think he is. After starting in tenth place, Becker stayed the course and steadily worked his was to the rear nerf bar of Bob Gangwer who was running in sixth place. With a textbook pass, Becker flew by Gangwer coming out of the corner and instantly pulled away, staying in sixth to the finish.

For Bobby Hayduk and Dick Schuler, just finishing the race felt like a win. Both drivers have struggled this week making it to the checkered flag. That all changed at USA when both finished in the top ten with Hayduk in eighth and Schuler tenth.

Speedweeks Championship Ohh’s to Lose

While it’s never over until it’s over, the SUPRS Florida Speedweeks 2021 Championship is all but locked up and is Dave Ohh’s to lose. With a 50 point lead over defending Speedweeks Champion, Rob Warren, Warren has to win and all Ohh has to do is finish seventh or better if Warren wins. That’s not counting any bonus points for fast time, a new track record, or leading a lap, because with Ohh having three wins, even if Warren ties the points leader, Ohh would win on the tie-breaker.

5 Flags for Night Five

The SUPRS drivers are headed to 5 Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL for the fifth and final night of SUPRS Florida Speedweeks 2021.takes place tomorrow night. This track is most well-known for holding the famous Snowball Derby every year, but has also seen it’s fair share of supermodified racing throughout its history.

The last three SUPRS races at Five Flags have had three cautions in 150 laps completed. In each of those three events, a New Track Record has been set. Dave Ohh broke the one year old record last year when he clicked off a 13.833 second lap. Last year Brad Keysor became the third different driver to win a SUPRS race at Five Flags, picking up his first career Speedweeks win by leading the final eight laps of the 15 minute 50 lap feature.
