Brad Keysor Dodges Late Race Buckeye Bullet to Beat Dave Ohh by just .076 of a Second

January 19, 2021-Mansfield, OH… Brad Keysor narrowly beat Dave Ohh to the finish line to win the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Buckeye 50  by just .076 of a second Wednesday at Mansfield Speedway. Keysor was able to hold off Ohh after a late race restart for the smallest margin of victory in the history of the race. Last year’s winner, Keith Powell staved off multiple challenges throughout the race to come home on the podium again, albeit over two seconds behind the top two. Rob Warren and Nelson Rodrigues rounded out the top five.

Redemption

For Keysor, who led 32 of the 50 laps last year only to spin late in the race, winning the 2021 edition of the Buckeye 50 felt like redemption. “This feels good,” said Keysor. “It’s a little redemption after doing so good before only to take myself out of the win.”

When the final caution came out for rookie Ryan Cloonan, who had spun coming out of turn two and slid to a grinding halt against the inside pit wall further down the backstretch, a short three lap duel was set up between Keysor and Ohh. “Dave was quicker up top and I liked the bottom, but I wasn’t going to give him the top,” explained Keysor concerning his restart strategy. “He pushed me all the way down the backstretch on the last lap and it kind of got me up higher than I wanted to be in the last turn, but I also think he couldn’t go to the bottom, and I had the momentum to beat him to the line. It was a lot of fun racing Dave, and I have the utmost respect for him.”

“It was a great race on a fun, fast track,” he stated. “I have to say thanks to 1st to Finish Race Servers, Hairbag Studios, BreezeGraphics.com and Icings on Top for all they do. Of course I want to give a shout out to SUPRS for putting this on, and B&K Logistics for giving me the night off to do this and Chasing Cameras for taking the victory lane shot.”

Hayduk Happy

Brad Keysor and Bobby Hayduk won the two heat races. Hayduk, driving the American Heart Association #14, has struggled a lot lately trying to find his groove. Mansfield is a track he is very familiar with after having stood on it’s flag stand many times to fly the silks for the real supermodifieds. Maybe that’s why he was in the right place at the right time when Danny Ray slid high off of turn four on the last lap of their, excruciatingly long running, heat race after leading from the drop of the green.

“I had a great time,” explained Hayduk, who with Ray led the field to the green flag for the 50 lap feature. That great time has led to a rejuvenation of sorts for the Brook Park, OH racer. He explained his newfound attitude stating, “It was fun, I raced the track, not the drivers. I know you are used to me being in last place, but you better look over your shoulder because I’m coming for ya’ll!”
