Brad Keysor takes wing win, Rob Warren wins non-wing at Wing Side Up Twin 25s

December 3, 2019  – Bristol, TN…Brad Keysor and Rob Warren split the wins in the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 16th Annual Wing Side Up Twin 25s at Bristol Motor Speedway. For Keysor, it was his tenth career win, second win in a row this season, and second  wing supermodified win in a row at Bristol. Warren almost kept Keysor out of Victory Lane in the first race, and came back strong in the second feature to claim a record setting, sixth feature win at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Winners Fastest in Time Trials

For the second year in a row, Keysor and Warren locked out the top two places on the Time Trial sheet. Keysor was fast qualifier in the Southern Hills Storm Football Team #3 with a time of 11.532 seconds. Warren wasn’t far behind after stopping the clocks in his 1st to Finish Race Servers roadster with a 11.538 second lap. Warren also set the fastest lap of the first race with a blazing 11.523 second lap time.

CPR to the Rescue

The CPR Motorsports team of Keith Powell and Steve Callahan had a good night. Both drivers qualified in the top five and finished both races in the top five. As former winners at Bristol, they certainly know how to get around the super fast 1/2 mile.

Powell was able to claim the SUPRS Charger for both races after advancing the most places from where he started and finished third in the first feature and fourth in the second driving the Icings on Top “Mayfield Missle.” Callahan, behind the wheel of the Exide Battery “Double Nickle” moved up two spots in the wing supermodified feature to finish fourth, then led three laps in the non-wing 25 lapper before ending up in second place.

Highs and Lows for Rodrigues and Gangwer

Nelson Rodrigues of Stoneham, MA led the first 16 laps of the wing supermodified feature and looked like he was going to take his second SUPRS win at Bristol. It wasn’t to be though, as he got into a tangle with rookie Zach Sears and spun wildly down the backstretch. Sears spun out in the ensuing yellow after looking good up until that point. Rodrigues attempted to restart the race, but ran out of fuel before the restart.

Bob Gangwer, who has two prior Bristol wins must have followed the same fuel strategy as Rodrigues. When the first caution flew on lap seven of the first race for a spin out by Carl Becker, he coasted to a stop while entering the pits out of methanol to power his 427 Ford engine. He did better in the second feature taking his NASCAR Heat supermodified to a third place finish after starting next to last in the nine car field.

First SUPRS Start for Holden

Steve “Red” Holden made his first SUPRS start when he took the green flag for the second feature. Driving the Sean O’Kane #02, Holden, a regular with the ARL HeatFinder.net league stayed out of trouble and brought the car home in seventh place. Afterwards, he said, “I really enjoyed these cars and had a great time. Thanks to everyone for helping me out.” Red indicated that he plans to be a regular with SUPRS and has upgraded to a Gold Crest Membership so he can run all events with SUPRS and go for the Icings on Top Rookie of the Year Award.

Coming Up
