Myles Maxon Moves Through Pack to Win Night 2 of SUPRS Florida Speedweeks

Enterprise, FL – February 10, 2015… Night two of the 2015 Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series Florida Speedweeks is in the bag and “Mighty” Myles Maxon of Oswego, NY made his was from sixth starting place to the Black Creek Raceway Victory Lane Tuesday night. Bob Gangwer and Rob Warren stood on the podium with Maxon after a race that took less than nine minutes to complete.

After Dave Brigandi and Carl Becker brought the field down to the green flag, Maxon wasted no time moving to the front and followed Rob Warren past the front row starters into second place by lap nine.

Myles Maxon didn’t let his starting position slow him down winning the SUPRS Speedweeks race at Black Creek Raceway Tuesday night.

“Yeah it was a good night. Carl and Dave were running good again tonight. I just seemed to have a little something out of one and two that carried me through the dog leg all night and helped me get by those guys,” recounted the winner.

The current point leader left no doubt that he was pushing to get past Warren cleanly but wasn’t going to allow the leader to dictate the move for the lead. “Rob left me the top side all night long but with the pack of wolves behind me that wasn’t really the option I was looking for.  I was finally able to time it just right and sneak under there coming out of the dog leg, stay beside him, and then hold my line into three and come out on top down the front stretch, but it wasn’t easy.”

Last year’s winner at Black Creek, Bob Gangwer, had another good run this year and was happy to finish in second place. “First of all congratulations to Myles on a great run tonight he was certainly the class of the field and deserves the win, I would have liked to pull it off, but I’m pretty stoked to finish where I did,” said Gangwer

“Myles had a heckuva time getting around Rob so it gave me a chance to look for a weak spot on both which made for some close and nerve-wracking moments at this big old joint. Once Myles finally got Rob it took me a few laps to get by the 35 and by then the “Swamp Rat” was gone,” he explained.

While Maxon and Gangwer battle among themselves to get around Rob Warren, the Pulaski, NY racer found his strategy of running slower and backing the corners up to be the key to leading the most laps of the 25 lap sprint.  “I was hoping Carl could hold Myles up a little bit longer, but he didn’t so I just backed up the corners and played it low and slow,” stated Warren.

Maxon outwitted Warren with a power move to take the lead on lap 14 to which Warren alluded to when he said, “I tried to keep it interesting as long as I could keep Myles back there and I was giving him all the room in the world on the top side, but somehow he figured that out and got by me on the bottom, on the front stretch, and just flew by me. There’s no doubt he deserved this win because he was fast all night.”

Fast is an understatement when describing Maxon’s speedy Tamarack Golf Club sponsored “Swamp Rat” since he nearly set another new track record when he clicked off a 17.025 second run in time trials. The time was only a blink of an eye slower than the record of 17.016 which Ray Sand, Jr. set in 2009. Maxon then went on to run the fastest lap of the race with a 17.084.

Monday night’s winner Steve Callahan was able to make his way to fourth place and keep his Florida Speedweeks Championship hopes alive as well as stay ahead of Warren in the overall SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship points.
