Featherlite Speedway Scene of Maxon’s Latest SUPRS Win
By Chris Meyers
Cary, NC – January 24, 2007…“Mighty” Myles Maxon continues to add to his impressive points lead with the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), and put his sim supermodified in victory lane at Featherlite Speedway on Wednesday January 24th, 2007.
Maxon, who is sponsored by Tamarack Golf Club, JimmyV.org and The Swamp, took the lead from Steve Callahan with a nice pass on lap one from his third starting position and would lead the rest of the 38 lap A-Main. Maxon was able to hold off a hard charging JP Curry and Chris Meyers.
Steve Callahan and Ray Sand Jr. rounded out the top five. With the win, Maxon moves into a three-way tie for third on the SUPRS All-Time win list with eight. Seven of those wins have come since October of 2006. The other one came in the non-wing series in 2006.
Maxon, also a Rookie league director, has always been respected by his fellow racers due to his soft-spoken nature and clean driving style. Myles was happy to get away with a win at Featherlite.
He stated, “I feel very fortunate coming home with a victory tonight. I managed to get out into clean air very early in the race, and more importantly avoided getting bottled up or damaged with slower traffic.
“As the race wore on, I knew Chris Meyers and JP Curry were closing in, and I just tried to run a smooth line. I hung on for dear life in the last 10 or so laps, knowing they were just a few car lengths behind.
“I’d like to thank Tamarack Golf Club, JimmyV.org and The Swamp for their continued support. Hopefully I can keep luck on my side for the stretch run in SUPRS and finish off a great season.”
Callahan and Sean Gibbs had impressive qualifying efforts after a season marred by bad luck. Chuck Russell set a new track record while Tom Heveron and Bobby Gangwer won their heat races.
In rookie racing action on Tuesday night at Cayuga Speedway, Lorain, Ohio’s Patrick Sommers held off a hard charging Danny Kapuscinski to win his first rookie league feature event. Chris Schoch, Ed Riley, and Dave Brigandi rounded out the top five.
The cars and stars of SUPRS will return to racing action next week with three events on tap. The rookies will take to Derry Raceway Park on Tuesday January 30, 2007 in Derry, Maine for a very fast racing show.
Some of those rookies will then head to Canada to partake in Championship Division racing action with the 3rd Annual Crazy Canuck Derby presented by MCSRacing.net at Cayuga Speedway on Wednesday January 31, 2007. The race will air with live audio by Todd Stanton.
The Championship Division drivers will then have to head back to Maine for the Groundhog Day Derby at Derry Raceway Park on Friday February 2nd, 2007.
SUPRS is currently looking to add a title sponsor to many events on the schedule including the North Carolina Swing, SUPRS Copper World Classic, Indyana Supermod Challenge on the Championship Division schedule.
Because of the overwhelming generosity from various sponsors such as Heveron Group Incorporated, Beachland Cleaning Service, Ada Automotive, PMS Motorsports, Fusion Custom Graphics, and Supermodified Scorecard, SUPRS has been able to give back over $1000 to the real life drivers and organizations. While that may seem like a lot, it’s never enough when drivers or team members in the supermodified world are injured or in need, so SUPRS is also looking to add more sponsors to the already impressive list.
Many sponsorship packages are available ranging from lap sponsorship for the bigger races at $1 a lap, to title sponsorship for the ‘swing’ events that feature four or more races in a week. For more information on how you can become a proud partner of SUPRS, you can email SUPRS at suprseries@yahoo.com where SUPRS League Director Bob Gangwer or Public Relations/Marketing Director Chris Meyers will show you how you can become a part of the “Ultimate Online Sim Race Car”.
