January 22, 2021 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), hits the half-way point of the 2020-21 Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship on January 26, and with it comes a huge double points Mid-Season Championship show at Oswego Speedway.
Bevy of Bonuses, Plethora of Points
There’s plenty of points and a lot of bonuses up for grabs that the Mid-Season Championship at Oswego Speedway. This event can be a make or break show for drivers, as the driver that wins the Mid-Season Championship isn’t necessarily a shoe-in for the Season Champion’s crown. But the driver that accumulates the most points from time-trials through both features is going to be crowned the Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Mid-Season Champion and it goes a long way towards helping his cause in the season long battle.
Last year’s Mid-Season Champion, Brad Keysor, who is second in points and is coming off a great week that saw him win the Buckeye 50 at Mansfield, and is hoping that a good run this year will be enough to close the gap of 173 points to 2020 SUPRS Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Champion Dave Ohh.
Double Points for each feature have many drivers hoping to seize the opportunity to make a jump in the point standings, or gain a little cushion in the close contest found throughout the standings top to bottom.
Other bonus points are available during the night including:
- SUPRSCharger – both features (10 points paid to the driver that advances the most places from his starting spot)
- SUPRSChallenge – both features (20 points paid to the driver that starts last and wins the race)
- DoubleDown (25 points paid any driver that can sweep the wins for both features)
- Mid-Season Champion Bonus (15 points. Tally of all points throughout the night)
Second and Third ESS Tour Races
These two races are also part of the 2020-21 Empire State Super Series Regional Tour Championship which is composed of various races throughout the season at tracks in New York.
Back in December, three-time SUPRS Mid-Season wing supermodified champion, Rob Warren won the opening round of the current Empire State Super Series when won a wildly entertaining Blind Date Night at MT Bullring. Warren’s advantage heading into the Mid-Season Championship is that he has won it three times previously in the winged supermodifieds and Warren sits in the top three for all-time wins at Oswego Speedway.
Times for Mid-Season Championship
There’s a full night of supermodified sim racing action at SUPRS Mid-Season Championship beginning with Hot Laps at 8:00pm on January 26, 2021. Time Trials to set the Fast 4 and the rest of the field are at 8:30pm with racing scheduled to go at 9:05pm.
