Wins Black Creek, Sets Three New Track Records in Process of Claiming Speedweeks Crown
Lakeland, FL – February 14, 2015….Myles Maxon of Oswego, NY has been crowned the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series Florida Speedweeks 2015 Champion. This is Maxon’s third SUPRS Florida Speedweeks Championship, the most of any other driver.
“First of all, I want to congratulate all the other winners this week,” began Maxon. “Steve, Rob, Ray and especially Dave on his first win, you guys did a great job.”
Each night, Maxon was saddled with the chore of having to start at or near the tail of the feature event because of the SUPRS Points Won Handicapping System. Even so he finished out of the top three only one night, and never out of the top five. His finishes included a win at Black Creek Raceway on night two of the swing. He also set a New Track Record at USA International Speedway, New Smyrna Speedway, and Black Creek Raceway and qualified fastest at Sunrise Raceway and Orlando Speedworld only narrowly missing out on claiming the track records at those racetracks.
“Five nights, five winners, what more can you say, that’s what this is all about and it’s been good hard racing all week-long,” said the Champion.
Maxon, driver of the Tamarack Golf Club, “Swamp Monster” further expressed his gratitude to his fellow racers saying, “I had a ball running side by side, nose to tail with the core group of guys and this is what it’s all about. I appreciate everyone coming in and allowing me to enjoy hanging out with everyone.” He then announced, “I’m going to donate $25 to the Dion Parish Memorial Benevolent Fund for Supermodifieds, for winning the Speedweeks Championship, because that’s why we do this, to have fun and help other people.”
After five nights of racing that produced five different winners Maxon was able to secure the Speedweeks crown with a total of 360 points. Steve Callahan and Rob Warren tied at 325 points, and with both drivers having a win, SUPRS officials had to use the highest time trial place to decide that Callahan secured second place.
Callahan, the winner on night one at Orlando Speedworld, summed up his Speedweeks after running second on the last night at USA International Raceway by saying, “This is a good finish to the week. All in all there was a lot of good hard racing all week-long, and with all the different winner, it makes it a lot of fun. Thanks to SUPRS and congratulations to Myles on the championship.”
Rob Warren’s Speedweeks was up and down. With one win and two podium finishes, the Pulaski, NY racer struggled to keep up consistent finishes and didn’t fare too well in time trials either which was ultimately cost him second in the Speedweeks championship.
“It’s been a long week and it wasn’t my best showing, but we kept going and somehow ended tied with Steve for second,” said Warren. “I will say this though, this week has been some of the most intense racing and produced some of the most give and take racing I’ve seen in SUPRS. Everyone did a great job and Myles deserves this Speedweeks championship.”
The SUPRS racers won’t have much rest as they move up the eastern seaboard to New River Valley Speedway for the 11th Annual Presidents Day Special 75. Practice starts at 8:00pm, Time Trials will follow at 8:30pm and racing will resume at the regular SUPRS time of 9:00pm.
