Lap Time Ties Track Record

Oswego, NY – August 18, 2014…Myles Maxon of Oswego, NY blasted his way to the top of the speed charts to take the pole position for the 10th Annual Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series Topless! 200.

Turning in a lap of 16.056, Maxon tied the one year old record set by Ray Sand, Jr. in 2013 qualifications for the Topless! 200. Maxon gained a valuable championship point for the effort as he works to keep Ray Sand, Jr. at bay in his effort to win his first SUPRS Gold Crest Non-Wing Supermodified Season Championship.

“Nice to be able to breathe because that was a kind of hold your breath deal for three laps,” explained the 2007 Topless! 200 Champion. “I was hoping to get into the 16 flats but I don’t think I could duplicate that. Those were just two perfect laps and it couldn’t have come at a better time.”

When asked if he would make any changes to the JimmyV.org, The Swamp machine Maxon said, “I’m gonna to roll into the trailer tonight and roll it off the trailer tomorrow night. I’m just going to get after it for 200 laps tomorrow night.”

In a situation that is eerily similar to last season, the points chase has come right down to the last race of the year between Maxon and Ray Sand, Jr. and once again the two rivals will start side by side on the front row of the Topless! 200, albeit flip-flopped from last year when Sand, Jr. started on the pole.

“Of course you gotta be concerned, Rays’ done this a time or two so I just have to saddle up, pull those belts tight and go for it,” said Maxon.

Guaranteed starter Chris Meyers will fill in behind the front row after qualifying third quick but choosing to use his guaranteed starter option. The rest of the field will have to run heat races including Rob Warren who sits third in points and was fourth quick. Those drivers not making a time trial attempt will start at the tail of all qualified cars.

Action for the 10th Annual Topless! 200 continues on Tuesday August 19 with practice at 7:00 pm. Qualifying heats are set to meet the Oswego Speedway pavement at 8:00 pm and then the green flag for the 10th Annual Topless! 200 at 9:00 pm.
