SUPRS 18th Consecutive Season of Supermodified Sim Racing Starts with Harvest of Speed at LaPorte Speedway
October 2, 2021 – Goshen, IN…The Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), eighteenth consecutive season of supermodified sim racing begins on October 5 with the running of the Harvest of Speed at LaPorte Speedway.
The fictional, tight 3/8th mile track in Northern Indiana has been a mainstay on the SUPRS schedule since the beginning of the supermodified sim racing sanctioning body. Most of those races have been the Harvest of Speed to kick off the SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Season.
Winning at LaPorte Tough, Repeating Even Harder
Since the first race run at LaPorte in 2004, a win there, has never been easy to come by, and to win there more than once, even harder. The only track that SUPRS has sanctioned more supermodified sim races at since 2004, is Oswego Speedway, so it would be easy to assume that there’s been a lot opportunity for drivers to chalk up multiple LaPorte Speedway wins.
To the contrary, in the 31 previously sanctioned events at LaPorte, 17 different drivers have won. But of the 17 different drivers that have managed to see the checkered flag first at LaPorte, only five of those have been sitting in victory lane at LaPorte more than once.
To bolster the “repeating a win at LaPorte is hard” theme, there’s been 11 different winners of the Harvest of Speed.
Ohh Defending Harvest of Speed Winner
Last year Dave Ohh became the eleventh different winner of the Harvest of Speed. In race that had the largest starting field for the Harvest of Speed since 2008, (19), Ohh won what would become the first of 23 feature wins on the way to his first SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship.
Ohh now has a chance to become the sixth driver to have more than one win at LaPorte, and after coming from the back to win the Harvest of Speed last year, and as a master of the NASCAR Heat sim racing platform, it would be hard to bet against “Speedyman” as he’s known. The thing is, with tough lapped traffic almost from the drop of the green flag for the 75 lap feature, you can never truly count on a sure thing until the checkered flag falls. Ohh echoed that statement saying, “It was really how you caught lapped cars whether it was one by one or packed up,” after last years race.
Harvest of Speed First Race of Indyana Supermod Challenge
This year’s Harvest of Speed is a part of the Indyana Supermod Challenge, (ISC), a multi-race, season-long regional tour that also includes races at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
Something that makes this championship within a championship a very hard one to win, is that racers have to be good in both wing and non-wing supermodifieds. Plus, the tour is a mix of both the NASCAR Heat and rFactor gaming platforms.
Special Award for 2021-22 ISC Champ
The overall Indyana Supermod Challenge Champion gets 10 SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Championship bonus points, which in and of itself is something special. Even better, the 2021-22 Indyana Supermod Challenge champion receives a special gift basket filled with Yoder’s Indiana Popcorn, popping oils and even buttery salt!
