Keith Powell, who is sitting in second place in the SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship XV, may have lost the battle, finishing second to Warren in the
Powell was joined in victory lane by Nelson Rodrigues, the second member of the winning Challenge team, to receive the Snowball Derby Championship Crown. After adding up both driver’s heat race and feature points, the pair finished the night with 148 points.
Their tally easily beat the second place team of Warren/Dave Brigandi and netted both drivers an extra 15 bonus points in the season championship standings, helping Powell to shave another two points off of Warren’s lead and put him within 11 markers going into the two-day Terry Gibson Memorial show next week.
This was Powell’s second Snowball Derby Team Challenge Championship, his first coming last year when he shared the championship with his CPR Motorsports teammate, Steve Callahan. This was Rodrigues’ first.
Once again, Team USA was awarded the Can-Am Challenge Cup by default when no Canadian racers made the race.

Buddy Sea, a driver who’s participation in SUPRS races as well as organizational operations goes back to 2006, returned to the cockpit for the first time since the 2016 season. Driving the Danzer Racing #52, Sea qualified in seventh place, finished third in his heat race and made the Canadian Pursuit. He was unable to start the feature due to internet connection issues.
Other Event Details
Earlier in the night, Rob Warren was the only driver to dip into the 16.5-second range when he set fast time with a 16.544. Heat wins went to Warren and Nelson Rodrigues. Keith Powell was the winner of a wild Canadian Pursuit where all but the top two finishers made it to the checkered flag after six laps.
Terry Gibson Memorial Next
SUPRS travels to Sandusky Speedway for the two-day 11th Annual Terry Gibson Memorial next week. The Terry Gibson Fast 50 will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, and practice gets underway at 8:00 pm with racing set for 8:45 pm. Then the next night the 11th Annual Terry Gibson Memorial 100 will take place with practice at 8:00 pm, and driver’s meeting at 8:15 pm.
The cars take to the track for time trials at 8:30 pm with racing is slated
Both races are part of the SUPRS/HeatFinder.net NASCAR Heat Supermodified Challenge Series and are open to all drivers that have registered at SUPRS.net and downloaded the proper car and track files within 24 hours of race time.
