Dave Ohh Gets Back to Black Creek Raceway Victory Lane on Second Night of SUPRS Florida Speedweeks
February 6, 2024 – Enterprise, FL…After being locked out a year ago, Dave Ohh of Union, CT was back in Black Creek Raceway’s Victory Lane on the second night of the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), Florida Speedweeks 2024. His win on Tuesday in Enterprise, FL puts him on top for the most career wins at the big 3/4 mile NASCAR Heat sim racing track with four. The driver he passed for the all-time career wins at Black Creek, Bob Gangwer, was second, and Anthony Corsoniti came home in third for the second year in a row.
Patience Pays Off
Ohh started in seventh position but had a great start and made some early moves. “They just kind of bunched up on the start and I was able to move up pretty quickly,” said the TMS Wolfpack sponsored driver. “Then I just had to be patient. I saw Bob, (Gangwer), trying to get a run on Zach, (Sears, the defending race winner, and early leader), but it’s tough when you don’t know where the guy in front of you is going to go, so I had to be patient and wait for them to push up.”
Ohh thought about trying Gangwer on the outside, but quickly fell back in line and waited for the right move. “I tried the outside once or twice, but that wasn’t going to happen,” he said. His patience paid off around lap 10 when Gangwer, while pressuring the leader Sears, slipped up just enough to allow Ohh by. It wasn’t long before Ohh was able to move to the inside of Sears as well as the two came out of turn two and took the lead for good with Gangwer following Ohh past Sears into second.
“It’s tough here, you have hit the corner and get through there without scrubbing too much speed. Bob pushed up trying to get Zach, then Zach pushed up just enough and I got him,” Ohh explained. “Thanks to The Mod Squad and HeatFinder.net.”
The NASCAR Heat ace now has 14 career SUPRS Florida Speedweeks wins. His win, after Brad Keysor won the opening salvo of this year’s swing through the “Sunshine State”, also means that, yet again, no one driver will win all five of the features during Speedweeks. A record that has stood since the first time SUPRS Speedweeks was contested. In addition, he now has seven wins in 14 tries for the season.
Time Trials
Not surprisingly Dave Ohh was the fast qualifier but barely beat Anthony Corsoniti for the top spot. Ohh ripped off a 17.105 lap to Corsoniti’s 17.108 to take the honors. Brad Keysor had a great, for him in NASCAR Heat, timed lap of 17.172 to take third. Gary Waldron was next at 17.233, followed by Bob Gangwer in the top five after turning in a lap of 17.248. Ryan Cloonan, Zach Sears, and Carl Becker completed the Elite 8 qualifiers and were all eligible for the feature inversion which was done by the roll of a die and put ended up being a full-inversion.
Three-Way Tie for Top Speedweeks Spot
There is now a three-way tie for first place in SUPRS Florida Speedweeks 2024 points going into the third race of the swing at Dodge. Monday night’s winner Brad Keysor didn’t have a horrible night finishing in fifth at Black Creek, and Zach Sears, who was second on night one at Desoto, finished one spot better than Keysor at Black Creek. With Bob Gangwer’s fourth place Monday night, and second place tonight, he’s put himself into contention with Sears and Keysor. So looking at it another way, Keysor has a first and fifth, Sears has a second and fourth, and Gangwer has a second and fourth tying them all with 140 Speedweeks points.
The driver that is just ten points back of the lead trio, Anthony Corsoniti ran fifth on Monday and third tonight and has has a slight cushion of 35 points on the driver that slots into fifth after two races, Ryan Cloonan.
Not to be forgotten, is that all five of those drivers are also the top five drivers in the overall SUPRS Gold Crest Wing Supermodified Championship XX points standings, and only Keysor and Sears have won a SUPRS championship of any kind. Another interesting note is that all in the top five for Speedweeks and Season Championship standings, but Gangwer, are former Icings on Top Rookie of Year Award winners.
Dodge Doings
After stretching their legs on the big 3/4 at Black Creek, the battle for the SUPRS drivers will make the mad dash to Dodge Raceway Stadium for the third night of SUPRS Florida Speedweeks 2024 to do battle within the tight confines of the 1/3 mile track built inside of a stadium.
Dave Ohh of Union, CT is the all-time, and defending winner of the race. Ohh has four straight wins at the unique venue that once was ruled by Nelson Rodrigues and always has plenty of wild and frantic action.
When asked what he thought about his chances to defend his win at Dodge Raceway Stadium tomorrow night, Ohh shared this thought, “I’d like to think I could defend my win, I mean I think I can, but it’s Dodge and you never know what will happen there. The gearing will be a little different and that will change the set up some because we won’t be turning as many RPM, and the I don’t know what the tires will be like but I don’t think they’ll be too happy being up on top of the bumps.”
