Dave Ohh Leads All 200, Laps Field on Way to Winning 10th Annual All-Star Classic 200 at Star Speedway
February 11, 2020 – Epping, NH…Union, CT hot-shoe, Dave “SpeedyMan” Ohh was the class of the field at the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series, (SUPRS), 10th Annual All-Star Classic 200 Tuesday at Star Speedway and put a “whoopin'” on his competitors, becoming the first driver in SUPRS history to lap every other driver on the way to capturing what is the first race of the SUPRS 2020 Triple Crown of Supermodified Sim Racing presented by Icings on Top.
2012 winner Keith Powell fought valiantly for the better part of 50 laps to stay on the lead lap, but eventually succumbed to Ohh’s torrid pace and persistent pressure. Powell was able to bring the “Mayfield Missle” home in second place the third time in three years. Brad Keysor had a solid, steady run to finish in third.
Turned Out Good
“Turned out pretty good,” the soft spoken winner said. “The lapped cars were really respectful tonight, it’s tough on a small track like this, but they held their line. I have to give a shout out to SUPRS, this was a good race.”
Ohh is now the fourth driver in the history of the race to lead all 200 laps, (Ray Sand, Jr., (2013), Steve Callahan, (2015, 2016), and Derrick Backus (2018), being the others), and to the best records SUPRS has available, is the first to lap the entire field.
The race had four cautions with the longest green flag stretch being an, almost unheard of lap count of 145.
A Lot Left
Surprisingly, and probably to the dismay of his fellow SUPRS competitors, while it seemed like Ohh was on the way to wearing out his equipment in the 200 lap grind, he felt very comfortable running the pace he was and believed that he had more left in the TMS Wolfpack “Black Beauty.” “I wasn’t really pushing, I never really felt like I had to push, there was still plenty of car left,” he said.
“I thought I should try to stretch the lead out a little more, and before that first caution I started to see what it would do, but then the caution came out and it bunched us up.”
One Step Closer to Triple Crown
With his win at the 2019 Topless! 200, and now the 2020 All-Star Classic 200, Ohh has joined the ranks of drivers with two of the three marquee supermodified sim racing event wins. If he can pull off a win in the season ending Summit Classic 125 this April at Madera Speedway, he will join Ray Sand, Jr. and Rob Warren as just the third driver in SUPRS 16 year history to have nailed the Triple Crown.
Powell Fights for Lead Lap
For the second year in a row, Keith Powell found himself doing everything he could to stay on the lead lap in the hopes that he would have a shot at the win. “First off, congrats to Dave, that was a great race, he’s just so good,” said Powell. “I don’t know what it is, but every year it seems like I’m second. I fought him really hard to stay on the lead lap and he ran me really clean. I needed that caution, (for a spin by Bob Gangwer), about four laps sooner, but I don’t know that I had anything for Dave.”
Double Header for Presidents Day
SUPRS sticks around the “Granite State” for another week of racing and on Tuesday, February 18 they’ll head to the 1 mile oval of New Hampshire International Speedway for the 25 lap Presidents Day Special that will also include the TMS Super HEAT Modified Tour for a 75 lap feature. This will be the first time since 2014 that the supermodifieds have raced at the relatively flat mile. Both sanctions will utilize the NASCAR Heat sim racing platform and the original version of NHIS for their high-speed contests.
The supermodifieds take the the track first on the SUPRS servers and will Hot Lap at 6:15. Time Trials are at 6:45pm with Racing for the supers set to start at 7:15pm.
After the completion of the supermodified portion of the event, the modifieds head out for a 15 minute Hot Lap session at 8:00pm. Time Trials for the TMS Super HEAT Modified Tour go off at 8:25pm and the 75 lap feature is slated to take the green flag at 8:30pm.
